Yong'an Yong'an (Yongan County of Yanping Prefecture and Ningyang County of Zhangzhou prefecture) is also known as "Yancheng". In 1448, Deng Maoqi launched a peasant uprising in the 24th capital of Shaxian County (now Shangping township of Yong'an and Zhongcun township of Sanyuan District).
In 1449, after the rebellion was suppressed, the governor of Fujian, fan Xiong, the right servant of the Ministry of punishment, Xue Xilian, and the censor Chen Yuantao went to the imperial court one after another. On the ground that it was too dangerous to explore, please set up another county.
In the second year of Jingtai (1451) of the Ming Dynasty, it was approved. In the third year of Jingtai (1452) of the Ming Dynasty, in September, there were 13 capitals in the south of Xinling, kuaisha County, from shangsibao to 32du, and from 40du to 43du, west of Baoshan, Youxi County. They were named "Yong'an", implying permanent stability.
From the time Yongan county was established to the Qing Dynasty, it was subordinate to Yanping Prefecture.

On January 28, 1950, after the liberation of Yong'an, the provincial people's government set up the seventh Office of the administrative Commissioner in Yong'an.

In May 1960, Sanming City was established under the provincial jurisdiction, and Yong'an county was assigned to Sanming City.

In February 1950, Yongan abolished Baojia and set up districts and townships. The county is divided into six districts, under the jurisdiction of 1 town and 11 townships.
In September 1951, the county was divided into six districts with 48 townships and 4 neighborhood committees.
In August 1952, seven (Qingshui) district offices were added, and six townships were assigned from the second district (Shangping) to its jurisdiction. At the same time, the third district office was moved from Dahu to Gongchuan. That is, the county is divided into seven districts, with 48 townships and 4 neighborhood committees.

In November 1955, Chengguan District was renamed as a town directly under its jurisdiction, with seven district offices, namely, Shangping, Gongchuan, Ansha, Hongtian, Xiyang, Qingshui and Dahu, under its jurisdiction 42 townships and 6 neighborhood committees.
In September 1956, Ningyang County was abolished, and its small pottery, big pottery and other places were merged into Yong'an. The administrative division was adjusted. The county has one town, six districts, 52 townships, and eight neighborhood committees.
In May 1958, the whole county was changed into 3 towns and 24 townships, namely Chengguan, Gongchuan and Xiaotao, and 24 townships including Qingshui, Luqiu, Longping, Huainan, Xihua, Jinggang, Dahu, Linghou, Kengbian, shangdun, Ansha, shuidui, Luofeng, Hongtian, Jishan, tuanshi, tiaozhu, Datao, Heping, Shifeng, Xiyang, Huangli, neigui and Xiaoluo. In October of the same year, the township system was abolished and the three-level management system of commune, management area and brigade was established. There were 10 people's communes in the county.
In 1969, the governing post of Kengbian commune was moved from Kengbian to Putou and renamed Caoyuan commune.
In August 1984, the commune and brigade system was abolished, and the township (town) and village administrative system was established. According to the original commune jurisdiction, five towns and eight townships were set up, namely, Yanjiang (Chengguan), Xiaotao, Xiyang, Gongchuan and Ansha, and eight townships including Maoping, Shangping, Qingshui, Huainan, Dahu, Caoyuan, Hongtian and Luofang.
In December 1987, Yanjiang town was changed into Yanjiang sub district office.
In December 1989, Yanjiang sub district office was abolished and four sub district offices were set up, namely Yandong, Yannan, Yanxi and Yanbei. There are 4 streets, 4 towns and 8 townships in the city.
On June 29, 1992, Maoping township was abolished and divided into Jishan Township, Huangli street and Xingping street.
On September 1, 1992, Dahu, Caoyuan and Hongtian withdrew their townships and established towns. At the end of that year, there were 6 streets, 7 towns and 5 townships in the city.
On December 30, 2001, Huangli street was merged into Yannan street and Xingping Street into Yanbei street. In March 2002, Jishan township was merged into Yanxi street. At the end of that year, there were 4 streets, 7 towns and 4 townships in the city.
