Yunzhou District Yunzhou District, a municipal district of Datong City, Shanxi Province, is located in the north of Shanxi Province, bordering Xinrong District, Pingcheng district and Yungang District in the west, Yanggao County in the northeast, Hunyuan county and Huairen city in the South and southwest.
In 2016, Yunzhou District achieved a GDP of 2.692 billion yuan.
On December 15, 2017, Yunzhou District of Datong City was awarded the title of "international health base" by the health and Environment Committee of the International Geographical Union. On April 18, 2019, the people's Government of Shanxi Province approved Yunzhou district to withdraw from poverty-stricken counties. In 2019, it was listed as the second batch of national agricultural product quality and safety counties.

Yunnei county was abandoned, so it is 15 kilometers northwest of today's Datong City. The first year of Yongchun (682) was broken by Murou, and the state and county were abolished. In the 18th year of Kaiyuan (730), it was restored to Yunzhong County, belonging to Yunzhou, so it was governed 3 kilometers to the east of today's Datong City.

During the Anti Japanese War, Datong County was divided into the East and the west, belonging to the Shanxi Chahar Hebei border region and the Shanxi Suiyuan border region. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, it was restored to one county.

On February 9, 2018, the State Council approved the abolition of Datong County and the establishment of Yunzhou District of Datong City.

Yunzhou area is located in the junction of Shanxi platform anticline and Yinshan uplift of North China platform. In the north is Beikou uplift, in the southwest is Datong jingle depression, and in the southeast is Sangganhe new fault depression. A series of tectonic features were formed in the multi-stage crustal tectonic movements in this region, especially the Yanshanian and Himalayan movements. Neotectonic movements were quite developed and seismic activities were frequent. There are Sangganhe and LIULENGSHAN geological fault zones in the area, which is an earthquake prone area.
The exposed strata in Yunzhou district are relatively complete. From the old to the new, there are Archean Jining Group, Paleozoic Cambrian, Ordovician, Carboniferous and Permian, Mesozoic Jurassic and Cretaceous (the above are mainly distributed in the mountainous and hilly areas in the northwest), Cenozoic tertiary and Quaternary (mainly distributed in the Pingchuan area in the southeast).
The mountainous and hilly areas of Yunzhou district are mainly concentrated in the west, North and northeast, while Pingchuan District is located in the southeast. This constitutes the main characteristics of Yunzhou District, which is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, and the terrain inclines from northwest to Southeast. The mountainous area of Yunzhou district is a part of Yinshan Mountain range. It runs from northeast to southwest in Datong and runs obliquely through the whole territory.
