In the spring and Autumn period, Shouyang was the fiefdom of Qi family. In the 12th year of Qinggong (514 BC), the land of Qi family was divided into seven parts, and Shouyang was set as the capital of Mashou.

In 448, Taiping Zhenjun moved his people to the south of Daling city and set up Shouyang County. At the end of Xiaochang (527), Shuozhou fell and was sent to Shouyang.
