Zhanjiang, Zhanjiang, Guangdong prefecture level city, formerly known as "Guangzhou bay", is also known as "Hong Kong City". It is located in the southern tip of the Chinese mainland and southwest of Guangdong province. It is located between 109 degrees 31 degrees east to 110 degrees 55 ', and 20 degrees 12' to 21 degrees 35 'north latitude, with a total area of 13225.44 square kilometers. Zhanjiang belongs to the monsoon climate in the northern edge of the tropics, which is regulated by the marine climate all the year round. In September 1945, Zhanjiang was established as a city. In history, it used to belong to Shenchuan County, and the inspection department of Shenchuan was set up in the territory, so it got its name. In September 1983, the system of city merging and city leading county was implemented. Zhanjiang is a prefecture level city directly under the provincial government. Zhanjiang is the main port for Guangdong Province, Qiong and GUI three provinces (regions), and is the main port for China's southwest provinces to go abroad. It is also the shortest port for Chinese mainland to lead to Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania.

The origin of city name
Today's Zhanjiang City was originally part of the land and island of Suixi and Wuchuan in the Qing Dynasty, and the MAXIE Bay (today's Zhanjiang port) between the two counties. In November 1899, it became a French colony, which was called "Guangzhou Bay". In September 1945, China took it back and set up a municipal building, named Zhanjiang. In history, it used to belong to Shenchuan County, and the inspection department of Shenchuan was set up in the territory, so it got its name. In ancient times, Shenchuan was also called zhanchuan. It is also said that Zhanjiang was originally divided into Suixi and Wuchuan, and Zhanjiang was formed by "Shenchuan" and "Jianjiang".
History of construction
According to the unearthed cultural relics, the area under the jurisdiction of Zhanjiang was inhabited by human beings in the late Neolithic Age 4000 years ago (between the Xia Dynasty and the Shang Dynasty).
During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, it was the southern border of Baiyue.
After the unification of China by the first emperor of Qin Dynasty, the territory under the jurisdiction of Zhanjiang now belongs to Xiang county.
In 111bc, Xuwen, Leizhou and Suixi in the South belonged to Xuwen County of Jiaozhi Prefecture, while Wuchuan and lianjiang in the North belonged to Gaoliang county and Hepu County of Jiaozhi Prefecture. Later, the three southern counties successively belonged to Jiaozhou, Yuezhou, Hezhou, nanhezhou and donghezhou.
In 634, Eastern Hezhou was changed into Leizhou, and the three counties in Leizhou Peninsula were controlled until the Qing Dynasty; the two counties in the north were Guangzhou, Luozhou and Huazhou, and Gaozhou in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Since 1936, the three southern counties have successively belonged to the eighth and fourteenth District of Guangdong Province; Wuchuan has successively belonged to the seventh and thirteenth District of Guangdong Province; lianjiang has successively belonged to the seventh and fourteenth District of Guangdong Province.
In February 1943, the Japanese invaders occupied Guangzhou Bay and established a very short-lived puppet regime.
On September 21, 1945, Guangzhou Bay was taken back by China. It was designated as Zhanjiang City.
Zhanjiang municipal government was established on February 15, 1946. It is a city under the jurisdiction of the province and is subordinate to the office of the administrative inspector of the seventh district of Guangdong Province;
In March 1948, it was transferred to the eighth District Office of the Commissioner of administrative supervision;
In May 1949, it was transferred to the 14th District Office of the Commissioner of administrative supervision, which was located in Zhanjiang.
At the beginning of December 1949, the CPC South Road Committee and Guangdong South Road Commissioner's office were established in Lianjiang.
On December 19, 1949, Zhanjiang City was liberated and remained a provincial city. The South Road office moved to Chikan, Zhanjiang City.

On April 1, 1950, Zhanjiang Municipal People's government was established, directly under the people's Government of Guangdong Province.

In April 1951, the CPC West Guangdong District Committee was established and stationed in Jiangmen. The CPC gaolei District Committee was under the leadership of the CPC West Guangdong District Committee.
In November 1952, the CPC western Guangdong District Committee and the western Guangdong administrative office moved from Jiangmen to Chikan, Zhanjiang City, and the CPC gaolei prefectural committee and gaolei special office were abolished at the same time.
Since November 1952, it has successively belonged to the administrative office of western Guangdong, the office of Zhanjiang Commissioner, the office of Zhanjiang administrative Commissioner, and is the seat of the offices of Nanlu, gaolei, western Guangdong and Zhanjiang. The regional organ is located in Chikan, and the municipal administrative organ is located in Xiashan. The scope of the urban area is basically unchanged, but individual towns and townships are adjusted.
In January 1955, Zhanjiang people's Committee was established.
In February 1956, the CPC western Guangdong District Committee was changed into the CPC Zhanjiang Prefecture Committee, and the western Guangdong administrative office was changed into the Zhanjiang Commissioner's office.
In November 1958, the CPC Zhanjiang prefectural committee and Hepu prefectural committee, Zhanjiang special office and Hepu special office were merged and renamed the CPC Zhanjiang prefectural committee and Zhanjiang Office of commissioner.
In June 1965, the State Council decided to separate Hepu, Lingshan, Dongxing autonomous counties, Qinzhou Zhuang Autonomous County and Beihai town from Zhanjiang special region of Guangdong Province, and establish Qinzhou special region, which belongs to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
In March 1967, Zhanjiang Revolutionary Committee was established.
In January 1981, Zhanjiang Municipal People's government was restored.
In September 1983, Zhanjiang City and Zhanjiang district were merged into a city led county system. The CPC Zhanjiang Municipal Committee and municipal people's government were set up in Chikan, and the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress and Municipal Association were set up in Xiashan.
