Jiyuan
Jiyuan City, a county-level city directly under the central government of Henan Province, is located in the northwest of Henan Province. As of 2019, the total population of Jiyuan City is 717700. There are 24 ethnic groups, mainly the Han nationality and the Hui nationality. As of June 2020, Jiyuan City has jurisdiction over 5 streets and 11 towns.
Jiyuan City is named after the birthplace of Jishui. Its terrain is high in the north and low in the south. It has a warm temperate monsoon climate. In June 1988, Jiyuan county was abolished and Jiyuan City at the county level was established. In 1997, Jiyuan City was directly under the central government of Henan Province. In 2005, Jiyuan City was upgraded to a provincial city. It is one of the 14 core cities in the Central Plains urban agglomeration. In March 2017, it was identified as the national industry city integration demonstration area. Jiyuan industry city integration demonstration zone is the first nationwide industry city integration demonstration zone supported by the national development and Reform Commission.
Jiyuan is a national health city, a global tourism demonstration area, a national industry city integration demonstration area, a national civilized city, a national garden city, a national greening model city, a national water-saving city, a national soil and Water Conservation Ecological Civilization City, a national sustainable development experimental area, a Chinese living environment model award, and a Chinese international business environment construction demonstration city.

In the Northern Zhou Dynasty and the Northern Qi Dynasty, Qinshui county was merged into Fu County and Changping County was changed into Wangwu county.
In the 16th year of kaihuang of Sui Dynasty (596 AD), Jiefu county was located in the north of Jiyuan County, and in the third year of Daye County, it belonged to Hanoi county.
At the end of Tang Dynasty, Jiyuan, Wangwu and Heqing counties were in the territory. Jiyuan belongs to Mengzhou, Wangwu and Heqing belong to Henan Province.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, there were Jiyuan, Wangwu and Heqing counties, belonging to Mengzhou.

The terrain of Jiyuan City is high in the north and low in the south. In the north is Taihang Mountains with towering peaks and cliffs. The main peak, Tiantan mountain, is known as the top of the mountains in Northern Henan, with an altitude of 1711 meters. The altitude of Aobei mountain and doufeng mountain are 1930 meters and 1955 meters respectively, rolling from west to East. The strata are composed of gneiss, schist and quartzite at the bottom, limestone, shale and part of sandstone at the middle, and thick limestone at the upper. There are karst development, so fissure water and cave water can be seen. In the southeast, there are loess hills with undulating terrain, with an altitude of 150-400m. The parent materials of soil formation are shale, sandstone and Aeolian Loess. The soil layer is deep, loose and easy to be scoured. Therefore, the cutting is strong, the soil erosion is serious, and the debris terraces are formed with dense gullies and broken terrain.

In summer, it is hot, with sufficient heat and concentrated rainfall, and local areas are prone to waterlogging and drought. In autumn, the air is crisp, the temperature drops greatly, and the rainfall decreases. It's cold in winter with little rain and snow. The annual average temperature is 14.5 ℃, the annual average rainfall is 567.9 mm, and the annual average relative humidity is 68%.

The vegetation of Jiyuan City is temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest zone, most of which belong to coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest. In Taihang mountain area, deciduous oak trees are planted. In the west, except for a small part of virgin forest near Aobei mountain, the rest are mainly mixed forest of secondary oak forest. In the eastern limestone area, there are a small amount of pine and Berlin, and the rest are mainly mixed forest and shrub. The forest coverage rate reaches 48%. In the western shallow mountain area, there are two-year and three crop cultivation vegetation mainly composed of wheat grains. There are few forests and many barren hills and slopes in this area, except for a small number of secondary oak forests near the yanwa river.
The rest of the mountain peaks are mostly artificial Robinia pseudoacacia forest, with shrubs such as Manihot thorn, Vitex negundo and Zizyphus jujuba growing on the top of the hillsides and hills, with the forest coverage rate of 20%. The southeast loess hills and piedmont inclined plain are mainly cultivated vegetation with two crops a year, and the hilly area is mostly cultivated as farmland, with the forest coverage rate of 14%. The city's woodland area is 813600 mu, including 440300 mu of natural forest and 373300 mu of artificial forest. By the end of 2014, the city had 590700 mu of national key public welfare forest compensation area, 2 National Nature Reserves with an area of 574000 mu, and 1 forest park with a forest coverage rate of 44.39%.

There are 33 species of wildlife under state key protection.
There are national first-class protected animals: leopard, forest musk deer, white stork, black stork, Golden Eagle, jade belt sea eagle, great bustard. National second level protected animals: Macaca mulatta, otter, gazelle, spotted bill pelican, swan, cygnet, vulture, kite, big owl, grey crane, spoon chicken, white tailed Harrier, sparrow hawk, goshawk, songque hawk, red footed falcon, yellow clawed falcon, red hawk, red footed owl, collared owl, carved owl, longitudinal bellied owl, long eared owl, short eared owl, small reed owl and giant salamander. One of the first-class protected plants in China is the Millennium ginkgo biloba in Wangwu mountain of Taihang.
