Lieshan District Lieshan District, subordinate to Huaibei City, Anhui Province, is located in the south of the main urban area of Huaibei City, known as the gateway district and South Gate of Huaibei City. Lieshan district is rich in mineral resources, including coal, kaolin, limestone, aluminum, iron, copper and so on. Its development started earlier. The first mine in Huaibei coalfield was built in Lieshan. Historical sites include Zhucheng site in the Western Han Dynasty, Zhuyang site in the early Tang Dynasty, Peiligang cultural site in the early Neolithic period, Longji mountain natural scenic spot, Nanhu Park, "National Urban Wetland Park", Huajia lake, etc. It was awarded as "China land reclamation demonstration zone", "national top 100 counties for economic and fruit forest construction", "national agricultural tourism demonstration zone", "Ping'an County (District) of Anhui Province" and "Nanhu National Urban Wetland Park".

In 1992, songtuan township of Suixi County was divided into Lieshan district and songtuan town was established.
In 1996, Lieshan district covers an area of 58.3 square kilometers and has a population of 46000. It has jurisdiction over three streets and two towns: Baishan street, Qianling street, Yangzhuang street, Lieshan town and songtuan town. The district government is stationed in Lieshan town.
In 2004, Maqiao township of Suixi County was abolished and merged into Xincai town. At the same time, Xincai town was included in Lieshan District of Huaibei City. In August of the same year, Lieshan District officially took over Xincai town and Maqiao township of Suixi County (merged into songtuan town). After the adjustment, it has jurisdiction over three towns and five sub district offices. The total area has increased from 58.3 square kilometers to 233.336 square kilometers. The population has increased from 149000 to 248301, of which the rural population has increased from 43000 to 117200, and the number of administrative villages has increased from 15 to 45. By the end of 2004, Lieshan district had four streets (Linhaitong, Baishan, Renlou, Qianling) and three towns (Lieshan, songtuan, Xincai).
In March 2006, Lieshan District adjusted the original 3 towns and 4 sub district offices to 2 towns and 5 sub district offices. Lieshan town and Xincai town were abolished. The new Lieshan town will be established in the administrative areas of wushankou village, Lieshan village, Songzhuang village and Tulou village of the former Xincai town and the former Lieshan town. Yangzhuang sub district office was set up in Hongzhuang, Yangzhuang, erlangmiao, Huangqiao and Yangzhuang mine. The former Zhaoji township of Suixi County was merged with the former Gulao town to establish a new Gulao Town, which was also included in the Lieshan area. After the adjustment, the area under its jurisdiction is 388 square kilometers, with a population of 370000. There are 43 neighborhood committees and 84 administrative villages.
In 2007, village level zoning was adjusted from 84 to 50.
In 2008, the original communities were adjusted to 32, and the village committees were changed to 2 neighborhood committees. After the adjustment, there were 34 communities in the whole district (including 3 neighborhood committees directly under the District, 4 neighborhood committees related to agriculture, and 27 neighborhood committees of industrial and mining enterprises).

Lieshan district is located in the south of Huaibei City, the terrain inclines slightly from northwest to Southeast. The mountains are mainly distributed in the north and the east of the central part. There are more than ten mountains in the area, such as Longji mountain, Yingshan mountain, Qinglong mountain, Wolong mountain, Xiaohua mountain, Fenghuang mountain, naitou mountain, Lieshan mountain, Dengshan mountain and woniu mountain. Longji mountain is located in Caili. Pingdingshan, the highest peak, is 362.9 meters above sea level. Qinglongshan is the largest of all the mountains. It starts from the coal preparation plant in the South and connects with Xiaohuashan in the north. It is 2000 meters long and less than 500 meters wide, with an altitude of 110.4 meters. It has a steep cliff in the west, a steep slope in the East, and a long distance at the foot of the mountain, with a peak height of 123.3 meters. It covers an area of 228900 square meters.

There are 1 large and medium-sized reservoir and 4 small reservoirs in the whole area, with a total capacity of 15.51 million square meters and 12.75 million cubic meters of Xingli reservoir, all located in the Zhahe River Basin. There is a beautiful natural lake Huajia Lake in the northwest of Longji mountain.

Lieshan district is the earliest development area of Huaibei coalfield. Up to the end of 2011, nearly 20 kinds of coal, kaolin, limestone, aluminum, iron and copper have been proved in geological reserves and can be developed.
