Shizong County Shizong County is under the jurisdiction of Qujing City. It is a mountainous agricultural county inhabited by many ethnic groups. It got its name because Shizong, the leader of the tribe, led his tribe to live in ninongdian (now Xihua village outside Shizong County) in the Tang Dynasty.
Shizong County, located in the southeast of Yunnan Province, is one of the old revolutionary base counties in Yunnan Province. It borders Luoping County in the East, Xilin County across the river in the southeast, Qiubei County in the south, Luxi County in the southwest and Luliang County in the north.
As of 2012, Shizong County has jurisdiction over 5 towns and 3 townships, with 99 villagers' committees and 10 communities. The total population is 421335, and there are 35 ethnic minorities, mainly Yi, Zhuang, Miao, Hui and Yao. On April 30, 2019, the people's Government of Yunnan Province decided to withdraw Shizong County from the sequence of poverty-stricken counties. On December 31, 2019, it will be selected as a typical county of rural innovation and entrepreneurship in China.
Historical evolution
In the pre Qin period, it belonged to the ancient Dian Kingdom.
In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC) of the Western Han Dynasty, it was located in Liujiang County of Yaojun county.
In the two Jin Dynasties, it was a wuman tribe in Donglong.
During the Tang and Song Dynasties, it was ruled by chieftains.
In the Yuan Dynasty, in the third year of Xianzong (1253 A.D.), the Mongolian army entered Dali and received two divisions, Shizong and Maitreya.
In the 11th year of the reign of emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty (1274 A.D.), the province of Zhongshu was set up in Zhulu County of Yunnan Province. Shizong was the General Commander of thousands of households.
In the 27th year of the Zhiyuan Dynasty (1290 AD), Shizong was changed from a thousand households to shizongzhou.
In the Ming Dynasty, in the 15th year of Hongwu (1382 A.D.), Shizong Prefecture belonged to Guangxi government; in the Chenghua period, Xianzong changed the local officials to Tongzhi and set up Liuguan Zhizhou.
In the Qing Dynasty, in the ninth year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1670 A.D.), JieQiu beicao was incorporated into Shizong, which belonged to Guangxi government.
In the ninth year of Yongzheng (1731 AD), Qiubei was changed to Shizong County.
Qianlong 35 years (1770 AD), from the state to the county, is the Guangxi government Zhili Prefecture.
In the 20th year of Daoguang (AD 1840), Qiu Bei was separated from Shizong and set up Zhengxian county.
From the first year of the Republic of China to the 16th year (1912-1927), Shizong County Administrative Office was established, which was subordinate to Mengzi road.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, in April 1950, the compass prefectural committee was abolished, and Shizong was subordinate to Yiliang district;
In 1954, Yiliang district and Qujing district were merged into Qujing District, and Shizong was subordinate to Qujing district. In October 1958, Shizong, Luoping and Luxi merged to form Shizong County, where the county government was stationed.
In February 1959, Luxi was divided into Mile County of Honghe Prefecture. Shizong and Luoping were merged into Luoping County, and the county government was stationed in Luoping County.
In July 1961, Luoping and Shizong were set up separately, and Shizong County was restored, belonging to Qujing area.
In 1997, Qujing district was set up as a city, and Shizong was under the jurisdiction of Qujing City.

Shizong County is located in the east of Yunnan Province, in the southeast of Qujing City, at the junction of Yunnan and Guangxi provinces. It borders Luoping County in the East, Xilin County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region across the river in the southeast, Qiubei County of Wenshan Prefecture in the south, Luxi County of Honghe Prefecture in the southwest and Luliang County in the north. It spans 103 ° 42 ′ - 104 ° 34 ′ E and 24 ° 20 ′ - 25 ° 00 ′ n, with a vertical distance of about 90 km and a horizontal distance of 56 km, covering an area of 2783 square kilometers. The county is 178 kilometers away from Kunming, the provincial capital, and 120 kilometers away from Qujing.
Geology and geomorphology
The geological structure of Shizong County is complex, including Devonian system, Permian system, Triassic system, tertiary system and limestone system. Devonian system is distributed in the junction area of Shizong and Luliang, and its lithology is carbonate and dolomitic limestone; limestone system is distributed in the Walu area of Shizong, with dolomite as the main part and in conformity with Devonian system; Permian system is distributed in xiongbi and Yuzhu area, which is composed of limestone, dolomitic limestone and chert limestone; Triassic system is widely distributed in the whole area of Shizong; tertiary system is distributed in Datong and Longdian area . The main structural systems are NE trending structure, NW trending structure, arc convolution structure and network structure. In the West and north of Shizong County, the NE trending structural system is composed of NW fold faults. The distribution range of NW trending structural system is roughly consistent with that of NE trending faults. Faults cut and destroy NE trending faults, which are characterized by tight folds, small scale, dense faults, short extension and tension torsion. The arc convolution structure system shows a southward attack near Datong. The network structure system is distributed in Datong, Shanwu and luyige. The ne structure is staggered by the NW structure, and the two groups of faults intersect and cut into a grid. The area to the south of Datong includes most areas of Wulong, Gaoliang and Longqing, which are controlled by Nanpanjiang River. The secondary faults generally approach the north-south direction, the faults are nearly orthogonal to Nanpanjiang River, the folds are controlled by Nanpanjiang synclinorium, the folds are generally broad and gentle, and the fold axis is roughly parallel to Nanpanjiang River, or extends in the direction of North, Southeast and West.
The terrain of Shizong County is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, with an average altitude of 1800-1900 meters. The highest point is Junzi mountain in the middle, with an altitude of 2409.7 meters. The lowest point is at the intersection of Bani River and Nanpan River in Gaoliang Township in the southeast, with an altitude of 737 meters. Some areas of Gaoliang Zhuang Miao Yao Township, Longqing Yi Zhuang Township and Wulong Zhuang Township along the coast of Nanpanjiang River in the southeast are deeply affected by Nanpanjiang River and its tributaries, forming the characteristics of high mountains, deep valleys and steep slopes, with an altitude of 737-1500 meters; the central and southern parts are eroded areas, mostly Jianshan, with an altitude of 1500-2400 meters, including Longqing Yi Zhuang Township, most of Wulong Zhuang Township and Datong town The central and western parts are hilly and karst basins, with an altitude of 1680-2000m, including parts of Danfeng Town, Caiyun Town, Kuishan Town, Zhuji Township and Datong town; the northwest part is an erosion cutting area, with big mountains alternating with small dams, with an altitude of 1900-2300m, mainly xiongbi town.
