From yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties to the eve of liberation, it was under the jurisdiction of Huaiyuan County.
In 1910, Duan Shuyun, a member of Xiaoxian County, came to the district to build a coal mine. In 1911, he officially registered "Datong coal mining company", which is the origin of the name "Datong".
On March 27, 1930, the Construction Committee of the national government invested in the establishment of Huainan Coal Mine Bureau in jiulonggang, which was the source of the official Huainan coal mine. In June 1938, Japanese invaders occupied Datong and seized Datong and jiulonggang coal mines. In 1945, Japan surrendered and Datong Mine and jiulonggang mine were taken over by the national government and Song Ziwen financial group. During the period of the Republic of China, with the formation of Huainan mining area, Luohe and Shangyao areas were under the jurisdiction of Huaiyuan, while Datong and jiulonggang areas were under the jurisdiction of mining area.
