In the 19th year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1149), the two counties of Chongren and Yongfeng were set up as Le'an County, which had jurisdiction over Tianshu, Le'an, Zhongyi and yungai. It was named after Le'an Township and belonged to Fuzhou.
In the Yuan Dynasty, Le'an County belonged to Fuzhou road.
In Ming and Qing Dynasties, Le'an County belonged to Fuzhou Prefecture.
