Historical evolution

In 1993, the city was renamed Xiucheng.

On May 17, 2005, the Ministry of Civil Affairs approved that Xiucheng District of Jiaxing City was renamed Nanhu District. On May 20, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Civil Affairs issued a notice of renaming (zhezhengfa No. 27 of Zhejiang Provincial People's Government), and Nanhu District was officially listed on May 28.

Nanhu District is low and flat with an average altitude of 3.7 meters. Nanhu, with an area of only 800 mu, is formed by the confluence of canals.
