Longwan District Longwan District, under the jurisdiction of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is one of the four main urban districts of Wenzhou City. In 1961, it belonged to Zhuangyuan and Longwan commune respectively.
In December 1984, the State Council approved the establishment of Longwan District, which is one of the three major urban areas in Wenzhou. In 1997, Longwan District covered an area of 61.4 square kilometers and had a population of 85000. It governs five towns.
In August 2001, with the approval of the State Council, the administrative divisions of Wenzhou municipal district were adjusted. Ten village committees of Yongzhong Town, Shacheng Town, Tianhe Town, Haibin Town, Lingkun town in Ouhai District and two neighborhood committees of Qiangang and Hougang in Tangxia town in Ruian City were put under the jurisdiction of Longwan District. Longwan District People's government moved from Zhuangyuan town to Yongzhong town. The area of Longwan District increased from 61 square kilometers to 279.02 square kilometers, and the population increased from 89300 to 297700.
In January 2002, with the approval of the provincial and municipal people's governments, the administrative divisions of Longwan District were adjusted. After the adjustment, Longwan District has jurisdiction over five streets, namely Yongzhong, Puzhou, Haibin, Yongxing and Haicheng, and five towns, namely Zhuangyuan, Yaoxi, Shacheng, Tianhe and Lingkun.
In April 2011, with the approval of the provincial and municipal people's governments, Longwan District has jurisdiction over 11 streets including Yongzhong, Puzhou, Haibin, Yongxing, Haicheng, Zhuangyuan, Yaoxi, Shacheng, Tianhe, Lingkun and Xinghai.
In 2012, according to the document requirements of Wenzhou municipal Party committee office, Shacheng street, Tianhe street, Haicheng street and Xinghai street were entrusted to the economic development zone for management, and Lingkun street was entrusted to the development and construction management of oujiangkou new area.
In 2015, Lingkun street was under the jurisdiction of the newly established Dongtou district. The eastern part of Longwan District is a low-lying coastal plain with dense river network. The western part is Daluo mountain, which is characterized by exposed rock mass. To the west of Daluo mountain is Wenrui plain.
Coastal plain: it starts from Daluo mountain in the west, reaches the coast in the East, Oujiang River in the north and Xincheng plain in Ruian City in the south, covering an area of about 150 square kilometers. The plain is long from north to South and narrow from east to west.
Daluo mountain: located in the southeast of Wenzhou City, Daluo mountain is close to the East China Sea in the East, Oujiang Estuary in the north, Ruian City in the South and Ouhai District in the west, covering an area of 114 square kilometers. Daluo mountain is called Daluo mountain because its peaks are shaped like Luosan and Daluo. The top of Daluo mountain, 704 meters above sea level, is located at the junction of Longwan and Ouhai.
