Huqiu District Huqiu District, belonging to Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, is located in the west of Suzhou City, between 31 ° 18 ′ - 31 ° 28 ′ N and 120 ° 10 ′ - 120 ° 52 ′ E. The land area is 224.7037 square kilometers, and the water area of Taihu Lake is 110.0465 square kilometers. In 2019, the GDP of Suzhou hi tech Zone will reach 137.724 billion yuan, an increase of 5.5% over the previous year, of which the added value of service industry will reach 68.446 billion yuan, accounting for 49.7% of the GDP, an increase of 10.2% over the end of last year.
In October 2019, Huqiu District will become one of the top 100 districts in China (top 100 districts in China), one of the top 100 green development districts in China in 2019, and one of the top 100 science and technology innovation districts in China in 2019.
Historical evolution
In 1100 BC, the eldest son Taibo and the second son Zhongyong of the leader of the Zhou family, Gu Gongyu, fled to the south of the Yangtze River and established Gouwu.
In 585 B.C., sun Shoumeng, the 19th grandson of Taibo, became the king of Wu. During his reign, he built a palace and a city in the northwest Erli (suzhan village, Huqiu township) outside pingmen, Suzhou.
In the 35th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (210 BC), the first emperor of Qin Dynasty visited Wu area in the south, where the white tiger squatted in the Luqiu and was driven to the west to escape, "walking more than 20 Li" (today's Hushuguan).
In 247, sun Quanjian built Ruiguang Pagoda in the west of Nanyuan village in Loufeng area. This is the earliest tower built in Jiangsu Province.
In the Sui Dynasty, in the ninth year of kaihuang (589), Wuzhou was changed to Suzhou, named after Gusu mountain. In the 11th year of kaihuang (591), the administrative offices of Suzhou and Wu County moved to Xinguo, Hengshan.
In 620, the third year of Wude in Tang Dynasty, at the end of Sui Dynasty, Li Zitong, the rest of the peasant army, attacked Wujun county. Shen faxing, the prefect, abandoned the city and fled. Li occupied Xinguo city. In 624, the government offices of Suzhou and Wu County moved back to Suzhou.
In Song Dynasty, the construction of Yunyan Temple Pagoda (commonly known as Huqiu pagoda) started in the second year of Jianlong (961) and the sixth year of Later Zhou Xiande (959). It was completed on the top of Huqiu mountain. It is an octagonal Wooden Pagoda with brick body and wooden eaves. It has 7 floors.
Tang Yin (1470-1523), a famous calligrapher, painter and litterateur in Ming Dynasty, died in December 1523. Buried behind zhuntian in Taohuawu. Yin once won the first place in the local examination, and was known as Tang Jieyuan in the world.
In September 1684, Emperor Kangxi made his first tour to the south. On October 26, he arrived in Suzhou via Hushuguan, and on October 27, he arrived at Huqiu. In the 28th, 38th, 42nd, 44th and 46th years, Emperor Kangxi arrived in the Soviet Union again and all of them ascended Huqiu. When he went to Huqiu for the sixth time, he personally inscribed the plaque "Hufu Temple".
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Suzhou was renamed Wu County. Changzhou and Yuanhe counties were merged into Wu County. All towns in the suburbs belong to Wu County.
In August 1929, Wu County implemented the system of district and township. Hengtang Township belongs to the Second District of Wu County; Huqiu Township belongs to the second, sixth and twelfth districts; Changqing Township belongs to the first, second and sixth districts; Hushuguan town belongs to the first district.
In 1949, Suzhou was liberated. Suburban rural areas are divided into seven townships, which are respectively under the jurisdiction of the East, South and west districts of the city.
In 1951, the eastern and western districts of Wu County were divided into the suburbs of Suzhou.
In July 1960, Hengtang people's commune was transferred to the suburbs of Suzhou. In 1983, the system of Hengtang township was restored. In 1983, Hengtang township was removed and Hengtang town was built.
On January 5, 2000, the suburb of Suzhou was renamed Huqiu District.

In October 2017, Suzhou West Eco City Management Committee (Suzhou West Eco City Tourism Resort Management Committee) changed its name to Suzhou West Eco Tourism Resort Management Committee, implementing the management system and working mechanism of "District Street integration" with Zhenhu street; in November, Dongzhu town was abolished, and Dongzhu street of Huqiu District was established as the original administrative region of Dongzhu Town, with Dongzhu Street office stationed in Suzhou 28 Zhuzhen Road, Xizhu community.
As of June 2020, Huqiu District has jurisdiction over 5 streets (Hengtang street, Shishan Street, Fengqiao street, Zhenhu street and Dongzhu Street), 2 towns (Hushuguan town and Tong'an town), 62 community residents committees and 31 villagers committees. The District People's government is located at 58 Kepu Road, Dongzhu street.

② In the national geographic name information database of China, Huqiu administrative region is composed of two parts which are not connected with the East and the West. The eastern region is the central and western region of Suzhou Industrial Park. In the brief list of township administrative divisions of the people's Republic of China (2018), Xietang Street (administrative division code 320505006) and Loufeng Street (administrative division code 320505007) are also listed in the list of streets (towns) under the jurisdiction of Huqiu District.

④ Huqiu District has Zhenhu sub district (a non statutory administrative division unit, which has not been put on record in the Civil Affairs Department), which cooperates with the Western Suzhou eco-tourism resort to implement the "District Street integration" management system and working mechanism, and manages one community neighborhood committee and 10 village committees of Dongzhu sub district.
⑤ Shishan Street and Hengtang Street are "one team, two brands" to implement integrated development. The party working committees and offices of the two streets are jointly set up, but the working committee of the National People's Congress and the working committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference are separately set up.
