Historical evolution
The name of the county is the name of the country since ancient times. There are three representative meanings of the place name of Shule: one is that Shule means "water" in Turkic language, so it has abundant water and plants in the region; the other is that Shule is a soghd in Indo European language family, which means "holy land" in ancient Iranian language; the third is that Shule means "yellow" in ancient Hun language, because it is a symbol of "holy land" The soil around Kashgar is yellow. Shule is called "yingnaxieher" in Uighur, which means "Xincheng".
Shule county is a part of ancient Shule state. In 1884, the new Han City of Kashgar, built in the 10th year of Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1827), was used as the administrative center. When Shule Zhili Prefecture was established, the ancient place name of Shule in the Han and Tang Dynasties was used as the name of Zhili Prefecture. Zhili Prefecture belongs to Kashgar road. Guangxu 28 years (1902) Shule Zhili Prefecture was upgraded to Shule Fu, Fu Zhi is now Shule county. Shule Prefecture is a part of Shule County, yuepuhu county and aketao county. In 1913, it was changed to Shule County, which still belongs to Kashgar road. In 1929, it belonged to Kashgar administrative region, and in 1943, it belonged to Kashgar supervision region. Since 1949, it has belonged to Kashgar region, southern Xinjiang administrative region and Kashgar region.
On March 1, 1998, with the approval of the government of the autonomous region, three villager groups in a village of Chengguan Town, Shule county were put under the jurisdiction of Kashi City.
