Zhongshan District is subordinate to Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province. It was established in March 1988 as a county-level administrative region under the jurisdiction of the city. It is 254 kilometers away from Guiyang City, the provincial capital. It is located in the downtown area of Liupanshui City. Zhongshan District covers a total area of 478.99 square kilometers and governs 3 towns and 9 streets. In 2019, the permanent resident population is 612900, with 31 ethnic groups including Han, Yi and Miao.
Zhongshan District is located in the junction of Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi, and the center of Guiyang and Kunming. It connects Sanqin in the north, Baiyue in the East, xiahai in the South and Yunnan in the West. It is the "dry Wharf in the west" and "Overpass in four provinces". It is the throat fortress connecting the river and sea in the southwest. Zhongshan District is located in the center of "Pan Pearl River Delta region". It is the largest coal iron and steel raw material production base in South China. Zhongshan District is an important part of Liupanshui mining area, with 13.4 billion tons of coal industrial reserves by 2011. It belongs to the north subtropical monsoon warm and humid climate zone with special climate.

Historical evolution
During the reign of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty, the reform of land and return to flow in the territory came to an end, with Shuicheng hall in the north, Langdai hall in the East and Pu'an Prefecture in the south. During the period of the Republic of China, Shuicheng County, Pan county and Langdai county were set up.
In 1967, Liupanshui City was established on the basis of Liuzhi, Panxian and Shuicheng county-level mining areas (later changed into special zones), and then changed into a province directly under the central government. In 1970, Langdai County, Panxian county and Shuicheng County merged into the three special zones, which are still called special zones and belong to Liupanshui area.
In December 1987, according to the approval of the State Council, Shuicheng special zone was abolished and divided into Shuicheng County and Zhongshan District. The system of Zhongshan District was formally formed.

The six towns of Shuicheng, Dahe, Wangjiazhai, Dawan, Laoyingshan and Guanyinshan and the 13 townships of Chengguan, Jiaochang, Qilin, dewu, Fenghuang, Baini, yuezhao, Meichang, Yide, Yiqi, Nafu, Sanhe and Ertang were the administrative districts of Zhongshan District.
In 2006, Zhongshan District had jurisdiction over four streets (Huangtupo, Hecheng, Fenghuang and dewu), one township (yuezhao Yi, Hui and Miao), four towns (Dawan, Wangjiazhai, Dahe and Laoyingshan), 63 administrative villages, 65 neighborhood committees and 49 communities.
On May 21, 2013, the renovation system of Laoyingshan town in Zhongshan District was put under the jurisdiction of Shuicheng County, and the original administrative region and government residence of Laoyingshan town remained unchanged.
On May 21, 2013, the reconstruction system of Shuangjia Yi nationality township in Shuicheng County was put under the jurisdiction of Zhongshan District. The original administrative region and government residence of Shuangjia Yi nationality township remained unchanged, and the administrative boundary of Zhongshan District and Shuicheng County was changed accordingly.
On March 15, 2014, the system of yuezhao Yi Hui Miao Township in Zhongshan District was abolished and yuezhao street was set up.
On December 8, 2015, Shuangjia Yi township was abolished and Shuangjia street was set up.
On November 9, 2017, Guizhou Provincial People's government officially issued the "Reply of Guizhou Provincial People's Government on agreeing to put Shilong village, Shiqiao community and Shuanglong community in Fenghuang street of Zhongshan District under the jurisdiction of Shuangshui street of Shuicheng County" (QFH [2017] No. 222). The reply: it is agreed to put Shilong village, Shiqiao community and Shuanglong community in Fenghuang street of Zhongshan District under the jurisdiction of Shuangshui street of Shuicheng County.
In July 2020, the State Council officially approved the adjustment of some administrative divisions of Liupanshui City in Guizhou Province. Baohua Town, muguo Town, Nankai Miao Yi Township, Jinpen Miao Yi Township and Qinglin Miao Yi township of Shuicheng County are under the jurisdiction of Zhongshan District of Liupanshui City.
As of July 2020, Zhongshan District has 9 sub district offices, including dewu sub district, yuezhao sub district, Hongyan sub district, Hequan sub district, Yangliu sub district, Hecheng sub district, Fenghuang sub district, Shuangjia sub district and Huangtupo sub district; 3 towns, Dawan Town, Wangjiazhai town and Dahe Town; 3 ethnic townships, including Nankai Miao Yi Township, Jinpen Miao Yi Township and Qinglin Miao Yi township.
