Fengxian District, subordinate to Shanghai, is located in the southeast end of the Yangtze River Delta, in the south of Shanghai, bordering Pudong New Area in the East, Jinshan District and Songjiang District in the west, Hangzhou Bay in the south, and Minhang District across Huangpu River in the north. It is 42 kilometers away from the people's Square in the center of Shanghai and 30 kilometers away from Pudong International Airport. According to legend, Yan Yan, the ninth Confucius disciple of "seventy-two sages", returned to his hometown Jiangnan in his later years to preach. His last stop was Fengxian ancient land, which was highly respected by the local people. In 1726, Fengxian County was set up in the fourth year of Yongzheng reign of Qing Dynasty. In order to commemorate the sage worshipped by the people, it was named "Fengxian", which means "respecting Fengxian people".

It is said that Yan Yan (Ziyou), a great disciple of Confucius from the state of Wu, once came here, so he took the name of Fengxian.
History of construction
About 4000 years ago, Fengxian has been inhabited by human beings.
In 1726, Fengxian County was set up in the fourth year of Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty, governing Baisha and Yunjian townships in the southeast of Huating county.
During the period of the Republic of China, it was attached to the office of the administrative inspector general of the third district of Jiangsu Province. In the winter of 1933, 2333.3 hectares of farmland in 15 villages and towns of Nanhui County were transferred to Fengxian County, and the county was from Binpu.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was subordinate to the Songjiang special area of the southern Jiangsu administrative office, and in 1952 it was subordinate to the Songjiang special area of Jiangsu Province.
In March 1958, the Songjiang District was removed and transferred to Suzhou District.
In November 1958, Fengxian was transferred to Shanghai.
On August 24, 2001, Fengxian County was removed and built into a district.

In 1957, there were 1 town (Nanqiao), 15 big townships and 290 agricultural production cooperatives.
Since 1958, the people's commune has been established and the "unity of government and society" has been implemented. Fengxian salt farm was built the next year.
In 1961, Huqiao was separated from Xinsi people's Commune and Huqiao people's commune was built.
In 1962, Qixian and Tangwai people's communes were set up.
In 1979, Xinhai people's commune was established (renamed fengxinxiang in May 1984, now Haiwan tourist area).
By the beginning of 1983, the county had one county town, 18 communes and one salt farm. In May of that year, the government and the society were divided into two groups: the first group (marine fishery team) in village 5 of Xinsi Township and the salt farm.
In 1985, Fengcheng became a county town. From 1985 to 1986, farmers raised funds to build Shaochang and Hongmiao towns, and Shaochang Township and Hongmiao Township were established at the same time.
