Minhang District, located in the middle of Shanghai, is a "key" to the east of Xuhui District and Pudong New Area, to the south of Huangpu River and Fengxian District, to the west of Songjiang District and Qingpu District, to the north of Changning District and Jiading District, with a total area of 372.56 square kilometers. Minhang District has a flat terrain with a ground elevation of 3.3-4.8 meters. The Huangpu River runs through Minhang District, and the Wusong River, Dianpu River, Dazhi River and other backbone water systems form a river network with more than 200 rivers in the district. Evolution of organizational system
On September 26, 1992, the State Council decided to abolish Shanghai county and the former Minhang District and establish a new Minhang District, with the former administrative region of Shanghai county and Minhang District as the administrative region of the new Minhang District.
Minhang District originally belonged to Shanghai county, which was set up from the period of the Yuan Dynasty to the 29th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1292).
During the Qin and Western Han Dynasties, half of Minhang District was below sea level, and the rest belonged to Lou county / Haiyan County of Kuaiji county.
During the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Three Kingdoms and the two Jin Dynasties, half of Minhang District was below sea level, and the rest belonged to Lou county / Haiyan County, Wujun County, Yangzhou.
In the Sui Dynasty, Minhang District was basically exposed to the sea, which belonged to Kunshan County of Wujun county.
In Tang Dynasty, Minhang District was located in Huating County, Suzhou, the east of Jiangnan.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, Minhang District belonged to Huating County, Xiuzhou, Liangzhe road.
In the Southern Song Dynasty, Minhang District was located in Huating County, Jiaxing Prefecture, West Zhejiang Road.
During the Yuan Dynasty, Songjiang Prefecture was set up in Jiangnan Province, and Shanghai county was set up under Songjiang Prefecture. At this time, Shanghai county was equivalent to the current Minhang District and the old urban area, and the county seat was located in today's Huangpu District.
In the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty (1488-1505), Minhang began to be known as a place in Shanghai county. In the seventh year of Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty (1512), it was renamed Minhang (now the south of Minhang District is near Fengxian District).
During the Manchu Qing Dynasty, Shanghai belonged to Songjiang Prefecture of Jiangsu Province.
On July 7, 1927, during the period of the Republic of China, the northeast part of Shanghai county was cut off and upgraded to the special city of Shanghai (later called the old urban districts), and the rest remained as Shanghai county. At the beginning of its establishment, the county government office of Shanghai did not move and temporarily resided in Shanghai.
In June 1931, the Shanghai county government moved to Beiqiao town (located at the intersection of beisonggong on the existing humin highway).
In January 1958, Shanghai county was designated as a municipality directly under the central government of Shanghai.
In December 1959, the old Minhang District was established in Minhang town and Wujing area in the south of the former Shanghai county, and the rest was still Shanghai county. The next year, the Shanghai county government moved to Xinzhuang Town.
In June 1964, (old) Minhang District was withdrawn and merged into Xuhui District, and changed into Minhang and Wujing streets.
In February 1981, Minhang District was restored.
On September 26, 1992, the State Council abolished Minhang District and Shanghai county at the same time and merged them into a new Minhang District. The district government is located in Xinzhuang Town.
