Xilin district was originally the lower District of Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province. Historical evolution
The name of Xilin district comes from the name of XIAOXILIN river. Both big and small Xilin rivers originate in Meixi District, so they are called big and small Xilin. XIAOXILIN river is rich in small scale fish, "Xilin" is named after its homonym. In 1905, the territory of Xilin was under the jurisdiction of Tangyuan County, Heilongjiang Province. in 1916, Xilin belonged to the Fourth District of Tangyuan county (Gejie River). After the victory of the Anti Japanese war in 1945, only a few hunters lived here. In October 1947, 47 immigrants from Jiamusi city came here to open up wasteland and build Jialin village, which is under the jurisdiction of Nancha District of Tangyuan county. In 1950, it was transferred to the Fifth District. In October 1952, it was transferred to Yichun county. In 1953, it was put under the jurisdiction of the second district. In 1956, Jialin township was set up. On February 13, 1958, Yichun changed from a county to a city, and set up a sub district office in Xilin, under the jurisdiction of Meixi district. In August 1968, it was renamed Xilin commune. on December 6, 1969, Xilin District of Yichun city was established, with 9 natural villages and 4 sub district offices under its jurisdiction. In 1985, the total area of Xilin district was 456.98 square kilometers, with five sub district offices of Xilin, Xinxing, Taiqing, Bailin and sankm.
