Zhongyuan District Zhongyuan District is one of the central districts of Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. It is the seat of Zhengzhou municipal government and the political and cultural center of Zhengzhou city. There are 14 sub district offices, covering an area of 193 square kilometers. In 2003, gouzhao Township and Shifo town were managed by the Development Zone, covering an area of 97.1 square kilometers. The permanent resident population is 1.048 million, and the urbanization rate is 90.96%.
In 2018, the total GDP of Central Plains District reached 47.07 billion yuan, the general public budget revenue reached 3.01 billion yuan, an increase of 13%, and the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents increased by 8.4%.
In October 2018, Zhongyuan District was selected as one of the "top 100 national investment potential areas in 2018", top 100 national science and technology innovation areas in 2018, and top 100 national new urbanization quality areas in 2018.
Historical evolution
Before liberation, the southern part of Zhongyuan District belonged to the Second District of Zheng county (Qili township), and the northern part belonged to the Fourth District of Zheng county (Wuquan township).
On October 22, 1948, Zhengzhou city was liberated. The Zhengzhou Municipal Working Committee of the Communist Party of China abolished the old organizational forms of town, Bao and Jia, and established the first, second and third districts of Zhengzhou city around October 27, 1948. The first district is the Hui Nationality District, the second district is the present 27 District, and the third district is the predecessor of the Central Plains District. The municipal Party committee has set up the three district working committees of the Communist Party of China (hereinafter referred to as the working committee) and the district democratic government, which has jurisdiction over 15 Street offices.
In December 1949, the working committee and the democratic government of the three districts were abolished, and the District Street power was replaced by the District Public Security Bureau and its police station.
In September 1951, the three District Committee and people's Government of Zhengzhou City were established.
In December of the next year, five street governments were established, namely, qiaojiamen, xiaozhaozhai, Erma Road, Minggong road and beijingzhang.
In August 1954, the post of Dujie government was added.
In February 1955, the street government was changed into the street office, and in October, the people's Government of the three districts was changed into the people's Committee of the construction district.
In 1955 and 1956, Jianshe Road and Sanguanmiao street were added respectively.
In August 1958, the people's commune of the city was changed, the construction area was renamed the people's commune of the construction area, and the streets under its jurisdiction were renamed the people's commune.
In May 1960, it was changed into the Central Plains people's commune, with seven branches under its jurisdiction.
In August 1961, the city restored its districts and streets, and the Central Plains people's commune was changed into the Central Plains people's Committee, which had jurisdiction over six streets, including Jianshe Road and Sanguanmiao, and an agricultural commune.
In May 1962, Qinling road street was added.
In February 1968, the Central Plains Revolutionary Committee was established.
In April 1980, the Central Plains District People's government was established.

In March 1987, Zhengzhou city carried out the zoning adjustment, abolished suburb and Jinhai District, and put Xushui, Guangzhao, Shifo and dagangliu townships under the jurisdiction of Central Plains. After the adjustment, Zhongyuan District has jurisdiction over 8 streets and 5 townships.
In September 2003, Shifo town and gouzhao Township were entrusted to the Management Committee of Zhengzhou high tech Zone. The area of Zhengzhou high tech Zone has expanded from 18.6 square kilometers to 67.7 square kilometers.
In 2004, Zhongyuan District governed eight streets, one town and two townships.
In September 2005, Dagang Liuxiang was renamed hanghai West Road Street, and Zhongyuan township was renamed Zhongyuan West Road street.
In March 2011, Xushui town was abolished and Xushui street and xiliuhu street were established.
