Xinrong District Xinrong District is a municipal district of Datong City in Shanxi Province. It is located in the north of Shanxi Province and the northwest of Datong City. It borders on Fengzhen of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the north, Yanggao County to the East, Yunzhou district to the southeast, Zuoyun County to the west, and Heping District of Yungang district to the south. It is known as "the back garden of Datong".
As of February 2018, Xinrong District has one community service management center, two towns and six townships, with a total area of 1091.27 square kilometers and a total population of 118000.
History of construction
In the early days of the founding of the people's Republic of China, Datong City and Zuoyun County belonged to Chahar province.
In August 1952, Chahar province was abolished, and Datong City and Zuoyun County were transferred to Shanxi Province. The district still belongs to Datong City and Zuoyun County. It is under the jurisdiction of Datong City and then under the jurisdiction of Daren county.
In 1958, with the exception of guojiayao, dongshengzhuang and Pulu, the rest of the areas were assigned to the suburbs of Datong City.
In 1960, the district was an ancient city,
In 1964, it returned to Datong County.
In 1970, the northern suburb of Datong City was established, with jurisdiction over nine people's communes, namely Yungang, Gaoshan, Gudian, Xinrong, Zhenlu (today's Hubu), Xicun, shangshenjian, Desheng (today's Baoziwan) and Juqiang.
In April 1972, the northern suburb was renamed Xinrong District of Datong City.

Division evolution
On January 10, 1972, the five communes of guojiayao, dongshengzhuang and Pulu under the former Zuoyun County and the five communes of huayuantun and Zhenchuan under the former Datong County were included in this district, and the three communes of Yungang, Gaoshan and Gudian were included in the southern suburb.
On February 27, 1984, Desheng people's commune was renamed Baoziwan people's commune, and Zhenlu people's commune was renamed Hubu people's commune. On October 18, with provincial approval, Xinrong people's commune was renamed Xinrong Town, and the remaining 10 communes were renamed township.
In 2000, after the merger of towns, there were one town and six townships, namely Xinrong Town, Baoziwan Town, huayuantun Town, Pulu Town, guojiayao Town, shangshenjian town and Xicun town.
In May 2018, the administrative division of Datong City was adjusted. Gudian town in the southern suburb was classified as Xinrong District, and Xinrong District was changed into two towns and six townships, namely Xinrong Town, Gudian Town, Baoziwan Township, huayuantun Township, Bolu Township, guojiayao Township, shangshenjian Township and Xicun township.

Xinrong District, Datong City, Shanxi Province is located in the northernmost part of Shanxi Province, with a total area of 1102 square kilometers, covering 53 kilometers from east to west and 31 kilometers from south to north. In the north and northwest, it borders on Fengzhen City and Liangcheng County of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region by the Great Wall, Yanggao County of Shanxi Province in the East, Yunzhou District of Datong City in the southeast, Zuoyun County in the west, Pingcheng district and Yungang District of Datong City in the south.

Xinrong District is rich in mineral resources, with proven reserves of coal, graphite, basalt, diabase, purple shale, quartz sand, etc. Among them, the coal field covers an area of 82 square kilometers, with 209 million tons of geological reserves and 90 million tons of recoverable reserves. It is one of the key coal producing counties (districts) in Shanxi Province.

Wanghuo
Every night on the eve of the Spring Festival, every family's courtyard is built into a tower with large pieces of coal. It's called Wanghuo. It's auspicious to celebrate the prosperity of the whole year.
Tiancang Festival
January 20 for (small tiancang), 25 for (old tiancang). It is said that it is in memory of a Cangguan who gave himself up to rescue the people. These two days, people use kitchen dust to draw several big circles in the courtyard, sprinkle five grains, which is called cellaring, to symbolize the abundant grain, more grains, more cellars, and no longer hungry. It is also the last festival of the first month. On this day, people are used to eating black tea paste, rice noodles, and flowers.
Dujiugou Yangko
Dui jiugou Yangko is a folk song and dance which is popular in DUI jiugou village, Xicun Township, Xinrong District, north of Datong City.
