Nehe city was named after the Namur river crossing the territory. It was established as a county in 1913. In 1946, the former Nenjiang provincial Party committee and provincial government of the Communist Party of China moved to Nehe. In 1992, it was established as a city. Nehe city is the ancestral home of Qing Dynasty queen Wanrong, the hometown of Chinese potato, the hometown of Chinese sugar beet and the main producing area of high-quality soybean. Nehe city is located in the middle and high latitudes, across the three temperature zones of mild, warm and cool, and belongs to the temperate continental monsoon climate zone. Historical evolution
In 1695, Bordo station was set up from Qiqihar city to Heilongjiang city (now Aihui Town, Heihe City).
In the 32nd year of Guangxu (1906) of the Qing Dynasty, with Nenjiang River as the boundary, there were two routes of butha in the East and west respectively, and the butha in the East was stationed at Bordo station.
In 1910, the general manager of dongbuteha was abolished and the office of Nehe Zhili was set up. It was stationed in Bordo city and became the headquarters of the office.
Nehe county was established in 1913.
In 1946, the former Nenjiang provincial Party committee and government of the Communist Party of China moved to Nehe.
On September 2, 1992, Nehe county was abolished and Nehe city was established, which was under the jurisdiction of Qiqihar city.

In January 1987, Wang Ewenki township was built. It has jurisdiction over seven villages, Jianguo, Xinxing, Xingwang, Ewenki, Longjiang, Yanhe and Bailu, which are classified by Tuanjie Township. The county has jurisdiction over 5 towns, 16 townships and 1 ethnic township.
In October 1988, nine villages including Chaoyang village, Xizhuang village, Xianxing village and Wenhua Village in erkeqian Township, Wanxing village and Chengbei Village in Yongfeng Township, evolutional village and Qing'an village in evolutional Township and Henan village in Quansheng Township were assigned to Nehe town.
In June 1992, Huoming village of Quansheng township was restored.
In 1996, the three townships of Xuetian, Tongyi and erkeqian were abolished. The original administrative region remained unchanged, and the system of town governing village was implemented.
In March 2001, Quansheng township was merged into Nehe town.
In September 2011, 58 administrative villages were merged.

Nenjiang River originates from yilehuli mountain in Xiaoxing'an Mountains. It is a major tributary of Songhua River and the boundary water between Heilongjiang Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. With a total length of 1375 km, it passes through Nenjiang city to the north of Fuyuan forest farm in the county and into Nehe city. It flows through Qinghe, Xuetian, erkeqian, Taihe, laha, Tuanjie and other six townships and towns, with a flow length of 150 km. At ordinary times, the river is 100 to 460 meters wide, 2.5 to 4 meters deep, and the highest flood level is 98.95 meters. Laolai river originates from dongtumo mountain in Nenjiang City, with a total length of 115 km. From Laolai town to Nehe City, it flows through Yongfeng and evolutional Township, and flows into nemur River in the east of the county. At ordinary times, the water depth is 1 meter and the width is 10 to 20 meters, and the overflow width in flood season is about 100 meters.
Nanyang river originates from Wushantou of qinglonggang in Longhe Town, flows for 25 kilometers and flows southward into nemur river.
Shidi river originates from the southern foot of Maoer Mountain, flows through Longhe Town, kense grassland breeding stock farm of Maoshan forest farm, and flows into nemur River, with a total length of 28 km.
