Dongyuan County Dongyuan County, a county under the jurisdiction of Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the northeast of Guangdong Province and in the middle and upper reaches of Dongjiang River. Historical evolution
Dongyuan County was formerly the main body of Heyuan county. Heyuan county was founded in the first year of Yongming Dynasty (483), more than 1500 years ago.
In January 1988, the State Council approved the abolition of Heyuan county and the establishment of Heyuan City. Three towns in Heyuan county were designated as Yuancheng District, and the remaining 24 towns were designated as suburbs.
On November 8, 1993, the Ministry of Civil Affairs approved the abolition of the suburb of Heyuan City and the establishment of Dongyuan County, with the county seat in Mujing, Xiantang town.

Rice is the main food crop in Dongyuan County, with annual planting area of 400000 mu. Through the continuous promotion of fine varieties, the application of standardized cultivation techniques, and the development of integrated pest control, the rice yield has increased year by year. In 1999, the rice planting area of the whole county was 441700 mu, with a total output of 208500 tons, breaking through the 200000 tons mark for the first time. Since 2001, the agricultural structure has been adjusted, the planting of cash crops has been expanded, and the planting area of rice has been reduced. The total output of rice in the county has been stable at more than 180000 tons.
