Located in the Middle East of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hongshan District is located at 42 ° 13 ′ N and 118 ° 53 ′ E. The region is 25 kilometers long from east to west and 14 kilometers wide from north to south. The total area of the district is 506 square kilometers, and the built-up area is 56 square kilometers (accounting for more than 50% of the central urban area).
Because there is an ochre red mountain peak in the northeast of the city, it is called Hongshan in history and "Ulan hada" in Mongolian. There are 22 nationalities including Han, Mongolian, Manchu, Hui and Korean.
Hongshan District was established in November 1983 when Chifeng City at the county level was replaced by the city governing county system. It has a deep origin with Shenyang, Beijing and other historical cities. It has been known as "Liaoshen in the East, Jingji in the South" and "dry wharf" since ancient times. In 2013, the GDP was 27.011 billion yuan. The ratio of three industries is 2.7:50.7:46.6.
In December 2018, it was confirmed by the Ministry of civil affairs as the third batch of national community governance and service innovation experimental zones.
Historical evolution
In Han Dynasty, it belonged to Xiongnu, in Tang Dynasty it belonged to Rao Ledu, in Jin Dynasty it belonged to Zhongjing, and in Yuan and Ming Dynasty it belonged to Mongolia. In 1774, the city was built in Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, and the Qing government set up the director general's office of Ulan hada here. After that, there is a general office (subordinate to Chengde prefecture).
It was changed to Chifeng County in 1778.
It was changed to Chifeng Zhili Prefecture in 1903.
In 1940, it was changed to Wengniute Right Banner. In 1945, it was divided into Chifeng City and Chifeng county. In the future, cities and counties will be combined at different times.
In 1955, Rehe province was abolished and transferred to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
In 1962, Chifeng City and Chifeng county were re established.
It was under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province from 1969 to 1979.
On October 10, 1983, Zhaowuda league office was abolished and Chifeng City at prefecture level was established. Chifeng City at county level was rebuilt into Hongshan District.
In 1996, Hongshan District governed seven streets, two towns and one township: Zhanqian street, Xitun street, Sanzhong street, Yongju street, Dongcheng Street, Tienan street, Nanxin street, Qiaobei Town, Hongmiaozi town and Chengjiao township. The district government is located in the city center. By the end of 2000, the district had jurisdiction over 9 streets, 2 towns and 1 township.
In 2002, the district had jurisdiction over 9 streets, 2 towns, 1 Township, 18 administrative villages and 98 neighborhood committees.
In 2005, Wenzhong Town, Songshan District, Chifeng City was under the jurisdiction of Hongshan District, Chifeng City.
In 2006, four townships in Hongshan District were adjusted to two towns: suburban township was abolished and merged into Wenzhong town; Qiaobei town was abolished and merged into Hongmiaozi town. After the adjustment of administrative divisions, Hongshan District has jurisdiction over Wenzhong Town, Hongmiaozi town and nine streets of Xitun, Sanzhong, Yongju, Zhanqian, Tienan, Changqing, Dongcheng, hada and Nanxin.
By the end of 2009, it has jurisdiction over 11 streets, 2 towns, 27 administrative villages and 67 communities.

Climate Hongshan belongs to temperate semi-arid continental monsoon climate zone. The average annual temperature is 6.7 ℃, the average temperature in the coldest January is - 11.7 ℃, the average temperature in the hottest July is 23.3 ℃, and the average annual precipitation is 370 mm. The rainy season is concentrated in July and August, and the annual precipitation is 68%. The frost free period is 135-145 days, the annual sunshine is about 3000 hours, and the temperature difference between day and night in summer and autumn is large. The first frost appeared around September 22, accompanied by strong wind.

Hongshan District is located in the transition zone from Inner Mongolia Plateau to Songliao plain. In the north is the southwest section of Daxing'an Mountains. Qilaotu mountain of Yanshan mountain system is in the west, and nuruerhu mountain is in the southeast, forming a semi ring of mountains on three sides. The terrain is high in the West and low in the East. The altitude is generally between 500 and 1500 meters, with the highest altitude of 2067 meters. Landform can be divided into mountain, high plain, lava platform, low hill, sand dune plain. Among them, mountain area accounted for 17.74%; high plain accounted for 5.72%; low mountains and hills accounted for 19.44%; sand accounted for 21%.
Transportation
Hongshan District is 420 kilometers away from Beijing and Shenyang, about 500 kilometers away from Tianjin and Dalian, and less than 300 kilometers away from Jinzhou and Qinhuangdao ports. The Chijin railway can directly connect with Jinzhou port freight terminal. There are Jingtong railway and yechi railway through the area, which can directly reach Beijing, Dalian, Shenyang, Harbin, Changchun, Shanhaiguan, Qiqihar, Hohhot and other cities. There are direct flights to Beijing, Shenyang and Hohhot. Chifeng Chaoyang, Chifeng Chengde, Chifeng Tongliao, Chifeng Daban and Chifeng ring expressway have been completed and opened to traffic. Jinchi and chidabai freight railways pass through the east of the jurisdiction. The Northeast freight express train of Shenyang Railway Bureau has Chifeng south station and Dongnan yingzi station.
