Dushanzi district is an enclave of Karamay City in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Dushanzi district is located in the north foot of Tianshan Mountain, the southwest edge of Junggar basin, and the South Tianshan Mountain. It is adjacent to Kuitun city by 312 National Highway in the north, Wusu city in the west, and Shawan County in the East. It is 250 kilometers away from Urumqi, the capital of the autonomous region, and 150 kilometers away from the central city of Karamay. The place name of Dushanzi comes from Dushan in the region. Dushan is in the shape of "one" in east-west direction. It is not connected with other mountains and is independent of the Gobi. In Uyghur and Kazakh, Dushanzi is called "maytak" and "mayitou", which means "Youshan".
In 2015, the total area of Dushanzi district was 448 square kilometers, the built-up area was 26 square kilometers, the total population was 9 million, of which 5.7 registered residence population was composed of 31 ethnic groups, Han, Uygur, Kazakh, Mongolia, Xibo and Manchu, and the minority population accounted for 25.8%. Historical evolution
In the second year of shenjue (60bc), Emperor Xuandi of Han Dynasty set up the capital of the western regions, and Dushanzi belonged to it. Since then to the late Qing Dynasty, Dushanzi has been a nomadic pasture.
During the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, Dushanzi was under the jurisdiction of Wusu county.
In 1897, Dushanzi began to exploit oil.
In 1936, the Xinjiang Provincial Government and the Soviet Union jointly established the Dushanzi Refinery. The technology and equipment of the Soviet Union were introduced, and the Dushanzi mining area was formed on the north slope of Dushanzi.
On February 22, 1955, the local administrative committee of Dushanzi mining area was established.
After 1956, it was changed to "Dushanzi Town People's Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region" (county-level system), which was directly led by the people's Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
In 1958, Karamay City was established, and Dushanzi was classified as the municipal district of Karamay City (county-level system).
In 1970, the Dushanzi mining area revolutionary committee was established.

In 1984, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region decided that Karamay City was not divided into districts directly under the central government, abolished Dushanzi District of Karamay City, and established Dushanzi town of Karamay City (county-level system).
In 1990, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region restored Karamay as a city divided into districts and re established Dushanzi district.
