When it rains, the upper layer of stagnant water is lost from the ground. After the rain, the soil becomes dry again and cracks appear. The suitable cultivation period is short, the fertility is low, and the physical and chemical properties are poor. The purple soil is light, loose in structure, and contains sand, clay and gravel. The parent material is red sandstone of Dabie Mountains, with poor water content and poor organic matter. The parent material of sandy black soil (also called black soil) is yellow flood sediment, the upper part is black soil layer, and the lower part is gravel soil layer, so it is also called sandy black soil. The black soil layer is generally 30cm thick, light gray or dark gray in color, mostly clay soil in texture, without lime reflection, neutral and slightly acidic. This kind of soil is also suitable for short cultivation period, with large cultivation resistance and difficult to cultivate.
