Lingshi County is subordinate to Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province. At the beginning of the Warring States period, Wu County belonged to the state of Wei.
In the Qin Dynasty, Jiexiu county was first set up, and it belonged to Taiyuan county with Wu County.
In the Western Han Dynasty, it belonged to Taiyuan County, the thorn envoy Department of Bingzhou. Pingzhou city was renamed Pingzhou County, belonging to Xihe county. Xinmang changed Jiexiu to Jiemei. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Jiexiu was renamed and Pingzhou county was abolished. During the Three Kingdoms period, Jiexiu belonged to Xihe County of Bingzhou, and Wu County belonged to Taiyuan county.
In the Western Jin Dynasty, Jiexiu was changed into Jiexiu, belonging to Xihe state, and Wu County belonged to Taiyuan state. In 484, Jiexiu county was restored to Xihe County of tujing town. In the 19th year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (495), Wu County was restored, belonging to Bingzhou Taiyuan county. During the period of Tianbao in the Northern Qi Dynasty (550), Wu County was abolished. In the first year of xuanzheng in the Northern Zhou Dynasty (578), Jiexiu county was set up, which belonged to Jiexiu county. In the first year of Dacheng in the Northern Zhou Dynasty (579), Jiexiu county was changed into Pingchang County, belonging to Jiexiu county.
Before Sui Dynasty, Lingshi was not set up as a county, belonging to Jiexiu county.
In the early years of kaihuang of Sui Dynasty, Jiexiu county was abolished, and Pingchang County belonged to Xihe county. Kaihuang ten years (590), county southwest analysis set Lingshi County, Xihe county. Yining first year (617), changed to Huoshan County.

In 1286, Emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty established the provincial government. Lingshi County is a province of Zhongshu, Huozhou, Pingyang Road, Xuanwei envoy of Shanxi road in Hedong. At the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, xiaolingshi county was located in Lingshi County (governing lengquanguan). In 1336, xiaolingshi county was abandoned and merged into Jiexiu county.
In the ninth year of Hongwu (1376) of Ming Dynasty, Zhongshu province was changed into the Chief Secretary of Shanxi Province. Lingshi County belonged to Pingyang prefecture (hedongdao). In the 23rd year of Wanli (1595), it belonged to Fenzhou Prefecture. In the 42nd year of Wanli, it was transferred to Pingyang Prefecture. .
In the early Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Pingyang Prefecture of Shanxi Province. Qianlong 37 years (1772), established Huozhou Zhili Prefecture, jurisdiction Lingshi County.
In 1913, it belonged to Hedong road.
In 1927, it was directly under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province.
In February of 1938, the eastern and western counties were divided by Fenhe River. The western county of Lingshi belonged to Shanxi Suiyuan border region, and the eastern County of Lingshi belonged to Taihang District of Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan border region.
In September 1948, it was merged into Lingshi County and returned to the first special area of Taiyue.
On August 15, 1949, it was assigned to Yuci special area.
In November 1958, Lingshi and Xiaoyi counties were merged into Jiexiu county.
