Linyi Economic and Technological Development Zone started construction in June 2003 with the approval of Shandong provincial government, and was upgraded to a national economic and Technological Development Zone in December 2010 with the approval of the State Council. At present, the planning control area is 223 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over three streets, 118 villages and a population of 260000. Linyi Economic and Technological Development Zone was upgraded to a national economic and Technological Development Zone in December 2010 with the approval of the State Council. In June 2003, the provincial government approved to start the construction of Linyi Economic and Technological Development Zone, covering an area of 122 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over Zhimadun and meijiabu towns.

In 2008, Chonggou (Chaoyang) town of Hedong District was classified as a development zone by the municipal Party committee and government, covering an area of 182 square kilometers.

Linyi is rich in natural resources, which provides favorable conditions for sustainable development. It is a natural production base of high-quality fruits and green food.
