Chengxi district is subordinate to Xining City, Qinghai Province. Chengxi district is one of the downtown areas of Xining City, located in the west of the city. The eastern part of the city borders on the Central District, the northern part is bounded by the Huangshui River, facing the northern district across the river, and the western part is adjacent to Huangzhong County.

With a total area of 52.98 square kilometers, Chengxi district now has jurisdiction over 7 sub district offices of one town, 12 administrative villages and 31 communities, with a total population of 285400. It is a new urban area with scientific research, education, culture and communication as the center, integrating finance, commerce and tourism. There are 34 ethnic groups in the region, including Han, Hui, Zang, Tu and Meng. It is located in the Huangshui River Valley, high in the South and low in the north, with an average altitude of 2261 meters and an average annual temperature of 4.9 ℃.

Evolution of organizational system

One district was set up in 1949, the west district was changed in 1954, the people's Committee of the west district was set up in 1956, the city was merged with the East District in 1961, and the west district at the county level was built in 1963. In 2000, shenjiazhai township was abolished and merged into Nanchuan West Road Street and Hutai street. In 2008, the administrative area of Nanchuan West Road (26 square kilometers) was put under the jurisdiction of Chengzhong district.

Chengxi district is located in the central and western part of Xining, adjacent to Nanchuan River in the East, Huangshui River in the north, and Huangzhong County and Chengnan New District in the southwest.
