Longhu District Longhu District, under the jurisdiction of Shantou City, Guangdong Province, is located in the northeast of Shantou City. Longhu District is the birthplace of Shantou Special Economic Zone and the central city of Shantou. Historical evolution
Longhu District is located at the estuary of the delta alluvial plain in the lower reaches of Rongjiang River and Hanjiang River, most of which have only been exposed to the sea for hundreds of years. In the Song Dynasty, villages appeared in Waisha, Daya and Ouding. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, land was formed in Xinjin, Zhuchi and Longhu. In the middle of Qing Dynasty, when the population of Chaoshan increased rapidly, Longhu District was gradually developed. By the time of the Republic of China, the current village pattern was basically formed. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Longhu continued to develop wasteland and reclaimed a small amount of land.
Before Chenghai was established as a county in 1563, Longhu was under the jurisdiction of Haiyang, Jieyang and Chaoyang. After Chenghai was established as a county, most of Longhu was under the jurisdiction of Chenghai County, and a small part (Mayu Island) was under the jurisdiction of Chaoyang County.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Longhu, Zhuchi, Xinjin, Ouding and other areas were under the jurisdiction of Jinsha District, the suburb of Shantou City. In November 1984, Shantou Special Economic Zone expanded its scope. Longhu District covers an area of 22.6 square kilometers, covering six townships and Mayu village, including Longhu, Guangxing, xincuoliao, chencuohe, Nei confiscate and Wai confiscate, as well as some land in Jinsha District, suburbs and Chenghai county.
