Meijiang district, Meijiang district, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, is located in the northeast of Guangdong Province and the middle of Meizhou city. Historical evolution
Meizhou city is composed of Meijiang district and Meixian district. During the 500 years from the establishment of Chengxiang County in Haiyang County in the Southern Dynasty to Meizhou in the early Song Dynasty, there was no city in the state or county. In 945 (the third year of Qianhe in the Southern Han Dynasty), Jingzhou was set up in Chengxiang and led Chengxiang to a county. In 971, it was renamed Meizhou. In the fourth year of emperor you of Song Dynasty (1052), the earth city was built in the north of the Meicheng River, 450.3 Zhang (about 1499 meters) long. In August 1975, Meicheng town was changed into Meizhou town (still under Meixian County). In December 1978, Meizhou town was separated from Meixian County, upgraded from district level to county level, and renamed as Meizhou City, under the jurisdiction of Meixian district. According to the fifth census in 2000, the total resident population of Meijiang district (5 streets and 5 towns) is 313821, including 27471 in Dongshan street, 18639 in Jinshan street, 17109 in Chengxi street, 72418 in Jiangnan street, 21758 in Wuzhou street, 34320 in Dongjiao Town, 23980 in Xijiao Town, 50564 in Sanjiao Town, 10320 in Changsha Town and 37242 in Chengbei town.
In the first half of 2002, Meijiang district governed five streets in Chengxi, Wuzhou, Jinshan, Dongshan and Jiangnan, and five towns in Changsha, Sanjiao, Chengbei, Dongjiao and Xijiao, with a total of 60 village committees and 55 neighborhood committees. In July 2002, Dongshan street and Dongjiao town were abolished and merged into Jinshan street; Chengxi street and Xijiao town were abolished and Xijiao street was established; Wuzhou street was abolished and merged into Chengbei town; the number of village committees and communities was merged from 116 to 92.

After the adjustment, Meijiang district has jurisdiction over three towns of Changsha, Sanjiao and Chengbei, three sub district offices of Jinshan, Xijiao and Jiangnan, 54 villagers' committees and 38 community residents' committees.
On September 23, 2012, with the consent of the provincial people's government, the Department of civil affairs of Guangdong Province issued the reply of the Department of civil affairs of Guangdong Province on Approving the transfer of Meixian Xiyang town to Meijiang district of Meizhou City, and approved the transfer of Meixian Xiyang town to Meijiang district of Meizhou city. After the adjustment, Meijiang district of Meizhou city has jurisdiction over four towns of Changsha, Sanjiao, Chengbei and Xiyang, and three sub district offices of Xijiao, Jinshan and Jiangnan.
