Tongcheng Tongcheng, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province, is managed by Anqing city. Historical evolution
In the primitive society, there were ancestors living and reproducing in this area. In Xia and Shang Dynasties, Tongcheng belonged to Yangzhou. The state of Chou Chi Tung was named for its suitability for planting tung oil trees.

In Zhou Dynasty, Tongguo was established as a vassal of Chu; in the 12th year of King Jing (508 BC), Tongguo rebelled against Chu and belonged to Wu; after Yue destroyed Wu, it belonged to Yue; in the 36th year of King Xian (333 BC), Chu destroyed Yue and Tongguo attached to Chu again.

In the Sui Dynasty, it was Zongyang County at the beginning, belonging to Xizhou; in the 18th year of kaihuang (598), it was changed to Tong'an County, subordinate to Tong'an county.
In the early Tang Dynasty, it was still Tong'an County, belonging to Tong'an county. In the second year of Zhide (757), because of the rebellion of Anlushan against Tang Dynasty, the word "an" in the name of Tongcheng county was changed from Tong'an county to Shengtang county (later to Tong'an county) and Tong'an County to Tongcheng county. This is the beginning of the name of Tongcheng county.
In the Song Dynasty, in the early years of the Northern Song Dynasty, it belonged to Tongan County, Shuzhou; in the fifth year of Zhenghe (1115), it belonged to Deqing army of Huainan West Road; in the 17th year of Shaoxing (1147), it belonged to Anqing army; in the first year of Qingyuan (1195), it belonged to Anqing government.
In 1277, it belonged to Anqing road in Jianghuai province; in 1284, it belonged to Anqing road in Jiangzhe province; in 1286, it belonged to Anqing road in Jiangbei province.
In the early Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Ningjiang Prefecture. In the sixth year of Hongwu (1373), it belonged to Anqing Prefecture, Zhili, Nanjing.
In the early Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Anqing Prefecture of Jiangnan province. In 1667, it belonged to Anqing Prefecture of Anhui Province.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Zhili was in Anhui Province. In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), it belonged to anqingdao, Anhui Province. In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), it was directly under Anhui Province. In the 21st year of the Republic of China (1932), it belonged to the first administrative supervision area of Anhui Province.
In 1949, it belonged to Anqing administrative region.
In 1952, it was transferred to Anqing administrative region of Anhui Province.
In 1968, it was established in Anqing, Anhui Province.
In August 1996, with the approval of the State Council, Tongcheng county was removed and a county-level city was established.
