Pingli County is the "hometown of Nuwa". It has 150000 mu of ecological tea garden and 38000 mu of Gynostemma pentaphyllum. It is the first county of Gynostemma pentaphyllum production in China and a famous tea county in Northwest China.
In 2018, Pingli County has 11 towns under its jurisdiction, with a GDP of 9.962 billion yuan, including 1.069 billion yuan for the primary industry, 6.99 billion yuan for the secondary industry, and 1.903 billion yuan for the tertiary industry. In October 1952, according to the plan of adjusting the administrative divisions of districts and townships in Shaanxi Province in 1952, "the government of districts and townships should be stationed in the larger villages and towns with market as far as possible", "the name of townships should be named after the main villages, and all districts should be named after the digital sequence". After the adjustment, there were 10 districts, 79 townships and 285 administrative villages in the whole county.
In March 1956, Pingli County assigned Fengjin township to Langao County, and Langao County assigned Jinji township to Pingli County. In April 1956, in the process of agricultural cooperation, the administrative divisions of the whole county and township were greatly adjusted. The original nine districts were merged into six districts, 33 townships were merged, and Qingtai Township and Shuitian township of the old county were assigned to Weiru district. After the adjustment, there are six districts, one town and 39 townships in the county. In order to solve the problem of flower arrangement land in adjacent areas, in May of the same year, 23 households in Sanhe township of Ankang county were included in Pingli; in September, 16 households in Futai township of Zhuxi County of Hubei Province were included in Pingli; meanwhile, 16 households in Songhe (now Songhe) were included in Zhuxi County of Pingli County.
In February 1958, Jinyang District was divided into Sanyang district and Jingui district. In April, Jiyang district was abolished, and the county leaders directly under its Township were removed. In July, Chaoyang and Shanghe townships were merged and renamed siwangmiao township.
