Xide County is subordinate to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. Its geographical coordinates are 102 ° 42 ′ E and 28 ° 32 ′ n. It is located in the southwest of Sichuan Province, in the middle and north of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, bordering Yuexi in the north, Zhaojue in the East and Southeast, Mianning County and Xichang City in the West and southwest, 78 km from Xichang City in the South and 483 km from Chengdu City in the north. Xide County is 70.8 kilometers long from north to South and 59.5 kilometers wide from east to west, covering an area of 2200.4 square kilometers, equivalent to 3300600 mu.

In the third year of Tang Xianheng (672), in order to deal with Tubo and Nanzhao, military strongholds were successively set up in Xuzhou. The big one was called army, the small one was called city and town. Today, there is Luoshan city in Mianshan.
On the afternoon of August 3, 1267, the fourth year of the Yuan Dynasty, he ordered kengmian to march to the East and West Mountains of Lugu to establish his capital (actually Jiandi, the chief of Luolan tribe of the fan nationality living in the present-day Xide).
In the second year of Chenghua of Ming Dynasty (1466), the Sanguan, Erying and Qibao of ningfan garrison were built. Mianshan camp moved to tongcaoeai (now Mianshan town). There were guerrilla department, Mianning camp garrison department and Mianshan garrison department. To be, shoubei and ganzong moved to Tongcao pass. In the 22nd year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1683), one guerrilla guard, one Chinese garrison and two thousand general guards were transferred from Jianchang town. The four general guards, Ma Sanbu and seven half battle guards were stationed at Mianshan to reinforce the Earth City, which was renamed Mianshan camp. In July 1938, Ningdong Administrative Bureau was established. The Bureau was located in Mishi (today's Mishi town). It was first under the jurisdiction of the 18th administrative supervision district of Sichuan Province, and then under the jurisdiction of the reclamation Committee of Ningdong.
On August 12, 1952, Xide County construction working group was established in Xichang. Luo Zhenghong served as the head of the group and led the members to settle in ganxiangying (today's county) on August 17 to prepare for the construction of Xide County. On the 13th, the people's Government of Xikang province reported to the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's government for approval that "Xichang County, Hongmao Magu Yi Autonomous Region; Mianning County, the fourth district (Jingyuan District), is under the management of Xide County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region.". The administrative organs, cadres, finance and local armed forces under the jurisdiction of the original unit will not be moved, and all the organs under the jurisdiction of the original district will be transferred to the jurisdiction of Xide County.
In November 2020, Sichuan Provincial People's government decided to withdraw Xide County from poverty-stricken county.

After the adjustment, Guangming and Nibo communes were set up in the whole county, including hongma, Mishi and Baoge, and Taoyuan, Lizi, Beishan, Donghe, Xihe, Ruji, Heping, Jiefang, waguo, ernilogu, nidi, Mishi, Baoge, erbudi and bajiu.
From 1960 to 1979, the county's district and township system underwent eight adjustments.
