Historical evolution

Most of Cangnan belongs to the Aojiang River system. Aojiang River is one of the eight major water systems in Zhejiang Province and one of the three major tidal bore rivers in China (including Qiantang River and Minjiang River). It was originally named Shiyang River, then changed to Hengyang River, and then changed to qiancang river. Later, because of the high tide, the river mouth was rough, like a huge Ao mountain. In the Republic of China, it was changed to Aojiang, commonly known as Qinglong river. The total length of the main stream is 91.1 km, and the Hengyang Branch River is the longest. At the same time, due to the islands and the supply of sediment outside the shore, the intertidal beach along the coast is wide and gentle, with a width of 4-6 km and a slope of about 1 ‰. The material composition of the tidal flat is generally silty clay with a radius of 0.004 to 0.008 mm, except for the coarse radius of the sediment particles near the estuary. The subsidence depth of the silt flat is generally 30 to 50 cm, and there are vertical tidal gullies. The mouth of the tidal gullies near the estuary is inclined to the direction of the ebb current.

Mountainous and hilly coast

The 135 km coastline from pingyangzui to hutoubi belongs to mountainous and hilly coastline, and its pattern is deeply controlled by the NE and NW fault structural lines. Headlands and harbors alternate with each other. The coastline is tortuous, and the headlands are eroded. Steep rock slopes or rock walls of about 10 meters are generally formed along the coast, and the underwater slopes are steep, with a slope of 60% to 75%. Large and small bays are developed along the structural line. Due to the staggered development of structural lines and joints in the coastal section, several bays are often developed in one bay along the direction of the secondary structural line, forming a bay in the bay.
