In the Western Han Dynasty, Zoige area belonged to Baima area.
In the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Tongji county was built in Qiuji and xiabaozuo areas in the eastern part of the county.
In the Sui Dynasty, Tongji county was under the jurisdiction of Wenshan County and Songzhou County in the Tang Dynasty. During the period of Tubo's prosperity, it was under the jurisdiction of Tubo.
In Yuan Dynasty, panzhou was established in Qiuji township.
In the Ming Dynasty, Songzhou was merged and named songpanwei after the first word of the two prefectures.
In the Qing Dynasty, the county government set up the Department of revolutionary Tusi. During the period of the Republic of China, it was under the jurisdiction of Songpan county.
In August 1950, Maoxian prefectural Party committee and Songpan County sent a working group to work in baozuo area. In 1951, the Songpan county government sent a working group to Langmu temple to hold a meeting of the twelve Zoige tribes to carry out the work.
In 1953, the Chinese people's Liberation Army marched into the grassland and wiped out the remnant of the Kuomintang army MALIANG. In June, the twelve tribes of Ruoergai and the seven houses of baozuo were jointly built into the baozuo Administrative Committee of Ruoergai. Ruoergai County was built in July 1956, which is subordinate to Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture.
The name of the county comes from the name of a housekeeper sent from Tibet. The housekeeper's name is ruogeng. In the name of Zoige tribe.
