Duodao district belongs to Jingmen City, Hubei Province. It is located in the transition zone between Jingshan mountain range and Jianghan Plain. In 805, it was divided into Changlin county and Jingmen county. At the end of Tang Dynasty, Jingmen county was abandoned to Changlin County, and Duodao belonged to Changlin county.
In the Five Dynasties, the area of Duodao was occupied by Gao family of Jingnan state. In 940, Jingmen army was set up in Dangyang, which led Changlin county and belonged to Jiangling Prefecture. Soon the army was abandoned.
In the fifth year of Kaibao (972) of the Northern Song Dynasty, the Jingmen army was restored in Changlin County, leading Changlin and Dangyang counties, belonging to Jinghu North Road, and Duodao belonged to Jingmen army. In 1073, the army was abolished. In the third year of Yuanyou (1088) of the Northern Song Dynasty, the Jingmen army was established and still led Changlin and Dangyang counties. In the first year of Daguan (1107) of the Northern Song Dynasty, the Jingmen army was moved to the south slope of yaquepu (now Lianhua village of tuanlinpu town), and in the first year of Jingkang (1126) of the Northern Song Dynasty, the Changlin county government followed the Jingmen army to the south of Changlin and set up Jingmen town on the south slope of yaquepu. In the 14th year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1144), Dangyang county was abandoned to Changlin County, and the Jingmen army moved back to the south slope of yaquepu.
In 1277, the army of Jingmen was promoted to Jingmen Prefecture, which belongs to Henan Province. The prefecture ruled Dangyang, and the next year it moved to Changlin county. In the first year of yuantianli (1328), Jiangfu was a prefecture, belonging to xuanweisi of Jinghu North Road, and Duodao belonged to Jingmen Prefecture.
In the ninth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1376), Jingmen Prefecture was demoted as a county; in the tenth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1377), Dangyang County entered Jingmen County; in the thirteenth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1380), Jingmen county was promoted as Jingmen Prefecture, and Dangyang was restored as a subordinate county. In 1531, Duodao belonged to chengtianfu (changed to Anlu Fu in 1646, and Zhongxiang was ruled by it).
In 1791, Jingmen was promoted to Zhili Prefecture, leading Dangyang county and Yuan'an county. It belonged to the Hubei political secretary. Duodao still belonged to Jingmen Prefecture.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the government of the Republic of China changed Jingmen Zhili Prefecture into a county, which belonged to Xiangyang Road in Hubei Province, and later changed to Jingyi road. In 1927, Jingmen county was directly under Hubei Province. Duodao belongs to Jingmen county.
In February 1949, the urban area of Jingmen was liberated. In July, the whole territory of Jingmen was liberated. On August 1, the people's Government of Jingmen county was established.
At the end of 1951, Jingmen county was reorganized into 12 districts and one town, and the place name district was changed into a digital district. Chengguan District was the first district. At that time, Duodao was under the jurisdiction of Chengguan District (the first district).
In October 1952, the administrative structure of Jingmen county was adjusted, and 13 districts (Tuan forest region) were set up respectively from the first district (Chengguan District), the second district (Yandun District) and the fourth district (Wuli District). The townships of Duodao, Shuangyan, Tandian and Xingbu were put under the jurisdiction of Tuan forest region from the first district.
In April 1956, the district office was abolished, and the county Party committee sent a rural work guidance group. The regiment forest area (13 districts) was abolished, and Duodao was put under the jurisdiction of the Chengguan work guidance group.
In February 1957, the Chengguan work guidance group was abolished, and its jurisdiction was divided into Nanqiao, Gaodian and Duodao townships under the direct leadership of the county.
In September 1958, in the climax of "people's communization", eight communes were established in the county, including Gaofeng, Hongqi, Juju, omnipotent, Chaomei, Dongfeng, Weixing, and rocket. Some brigades of Duodao, tuanlin, and Yandun were under the leadership of omnipotent people's commune.
In April 1959, Jingmen county changed 8 large communes into 13 communes, abolished the omnipotent people's commune, established tuanlin people's commune, and put Duodao under the leadership of tuanlin people's commune.
In May 1961, the state-owned Luohanshan farm in Hubei Province was established. Duodao restored the people's commune system and was under the management of the farm.
In February 1963, Luohan mountain farm was abolished, and Duodao people's commune was under the leadership of Yandun district (later renamed Yandun people's commune).
In December 1975, the district was withdrawn and merged, and 22 people's communes (towns) were established in the whole county. Duodao is one of the newly established communes. Macheng administrative area under the jurisdiction of former Shenji district is under the leadership of Duodao commune.
In December 1978, the county's 22 communes (towns) were adjusted to 18 communes (towns), and Duodao people's commune was abolished. Most of the original jurisdiction of Duodao was under the jurisdiction of Yandun people's commune.
In November 1979, Jingmen City (county level) was established.
In January 1980, the Municipal People's government decided to set up four communes, namely Dongbao, cheqiao, pailou and Geji, and two sub district offices, Longquan and Baimiao. Duodao's nine brigades, including cheqiao, Zhouhe, Xiannu, Shuangxian, Shuangxi, Yangdian, Xiangling, Jiaotong and Shuangquan, are under the leadership of Jingmen cheqiao people's commune. On August 19, 1983, with the approval of the State Council, Jingmen county was abolished. The administrative region of Jingmen county was incorporated into Jingmen City, under the direct leadership of the provincial people's government.
In January 1984, 16 people's communes in Jingmen City were changed into district offices. Duodaoshi district office is one of the district offices set up this time.
