Historical evolution
Tianquan was siyudi (or migration capital) in ancient times. As early as the Neolithic age, it was a place where people lived, worked and multiplied.
In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 B.C.) in the Western Han Dynasty, Sima Xiangru was ordered to determine the southwest. The king of Siyu asked him to be his inner minister, so he moved his capital (now Shiyang town) to the county, which was the beginning of Tianquan County.
The Western Jin Dynasty still inherited the system of Han Dynasty, and changed the county of migration to Yang county. The county of migration in Southern Qi Dynasty was changed to Zongyang County.
In 553 A.D., Zongyang County was changed to Shiyang County, which means "yangcongzishi".
In 618 A.D., the Tang Dynasty adjusted the administrative division of Shu and established Yangqi county (today's county).
In the first year of Tang Tianbao (734 AD), Shiyang, Lingguan, Anguo and Hechuan were established in gushiyang county. After the middle of Tang Dynasty, they were ruled by chieftains (Gao and Yang). In 1935, the red army went north to fight against Japan and entered Tianquan County to establish a Soviet regime at the county, District, township and village levels.
In 1939, Xikang was established as a province under Tianquan County.
On February 8, 1950, Tianquan County People's government was established, belonging to Ya'an special district of Xikang province.
