Historical evolution
As early as the Neolithic age, there were human activities in Yiwu. After the founding of new China, stone axes were unearthed successively in Yanli village of Hezuo Township, Lizhao village of Huaxi Township, Xiayan Township and Fotang town. In 1981, a tomb of the Western Zhou Dynasty was excavated in mujianshan, pingchou township. The unearthed cultural relics include primitive celadon vases, vats, beans, bowls, dishes, bowls, black glazed pottery vats, pottery vases, etc., proving that Yiwu was no longer a wild land at that time.
It is said that Shaokang, the fifth leader of Xia Dynasty, granted the concubines to Kuaiji, known as Yu Yue. In the 25th year of emperor Zheng (the first emperor) of Qin Dynasty (222 BC), Jiangnan was established, Baiyue was leveled, Wushang county was established, which belongs to Kuaiji county. Wushang county is adjacent to Zhuji in the north and Taimo in the south. It roughly includes all the four cities and counties of Jinhua, Lanxi, Yiwu and Yongkang, most of Dongyang, Pan'an, Wuyi and Pujiang, and a small part of Xianju and Jinyun.

In 686, Dongyang county was set up in the east of Yiwu county.
In the 13th year of Tianbao (754), Puyang County (now Pujiang County) was established in the northern part of the county, Lanxi and Fuyang.
In the Yuan Dynasty, Yiwu was subordinate to the general manager's office of Wuzhou road.
In 1358, Zhu Yuanzhang captured Wuzhou and changed Wuzhou road into ningyue mansion.

After the revolution of 1911, the government system was abolished and replaced by the Dao system. Yiwu belonged to Jinhua Dao.

Yiwu was directly under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province, and then set up the office of the Commissioner of administrative supervision. Yiwu belonged to Jinhua District or the Fourth District of Zhejiang Province.
Yiwu was liberated in 1949. After the founding of new China, Yiwu belonged to Jinhua District.
In 1959, Pujiang River was merged into Yiwu, and in 1967, it was still separated.

The river bed is generally 135-185m wide, with an average water depth of 5.01m and the deepest reach of 5.9m. There are 21 primary tributaries, including more than 10 larger ones. The drainage area is about 812.7 square kilometers. Dachen river flows into Pujiang River through Qiaoxi, Suxi and Dachen townships, with a length of about 17.5 km, a width of about 60 m and a drainage area of about 200 square km.
