Hongqiao District Hongqiao District is the birthplace of Tianjin, located in the northwest of Tianjin city. It is one of the six central urban areas of Tianjin, and one of the important passageways for Tianjin to Beijing, Hebei and eastern provinces. Tianjin west railway station has become an important hub of Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway connecting the South North artery.
Hongqiao District is the birthplace of Tianjin's commerce. Yuanlong, qianxiangyi, ruixiangxiang and other Satin shops on Juiyi Street are old and well-known time-honored brands. Goubuli steamed stuffed bun and ear eye fried cake in Jinmen three wonders were all born in Hongqiao District. With a long history of Commerce, Juyi street and Hebei Street have played an important role in the commercial development of Tianjin.
Hongqiao District is also one of the birthplaces of national industry in North China. Marked by mechanical casting industry, Hongqiao District has created exquisite technology and trained a large number of skilled workers, which has a wide influence.
Hongqiao District is also one of the birthplaces of modern education. Lingdangge middle school, the first official middle school in Tianjin, and Beiyang University, the first modern university in China, were born in Hongqiao District, which trained Zhu Xianyi, Ma Yin and other famous scholars.
In November 2020, it will be included in the list of the third batch of counties (districts) meeting the water-saving society construction standards.
Historical evolution
Most of the early settlements in Hongqiao District appeared in the Yuan Dynasty, and most of them were distributed on both sides of the south canal and on the West Bank of the North Canal, such as houjiahou, xidawanzi yongfengtun, liangjiazui, zhaojiachang, dingzigu, Xigu and so on.
On the eve of Tianjin's Liberation in 1949, with the south canal as the boundary, most of Hongqiao District was in Hebei, the Ninth District of Tianjin. North Canal in the East, South Canal in the south, old city boundary in the West and North Canal in the north. It includes three suburban villages in the northwest, namely shaogongzhuang, Xiyuzhuang and dingzigu, with a land area of 17.6 square kilometers and 173282 residents. Henan is the eighth District, located in the northwest of the urban area, with Haihe in the East, Gulou East, West Street and Xiguan Street in the south, Xiyingmen market in the West and Nanyunhe in the north. At the beginning of 1949, there were 49675 households and 257533 residents in Hongqiao District, among which 2783 were Hui people, which was a concentrated area of Hui people in the urban area.
After the liberation of Tianjin on January 15, 1949, the Chinese people's Liberation Army took over the Ninth District Office of the Kuomintang. With the approval of the Tianjin Municipal People's government, the Ninth District People's government was established on March 12, 1949. In June of the same year, it was changed into the ninth district office, which was an agency of the Municipal People's government.
In October 1952, in accordance with the Tianjin Municipal People's government's order on readjusting the administrative divisions of the city and revoking the district office to establish the District People's government, the new eighth district was formed and the eighth District People's government was established by merging it with 16 police stations in the eighth district (34155 households and 167094 residents in some areas of the eighth District). The district boundary is: North Canal and beimenwai street in the East, North Road in the south, Xiguan Street along the West Road to south canal, qianlidi and xihengdi in the west, North Canal, dingzigu and Tangjiawan Avenue in the north. There are 28 Street offices in the district: Guanshang, guanxia, yingmen East, Hebei Street, yingmen West, Xizhan, shaogongzhuang, sandaoqiao, shudeli, Qiaobei, Xiyuzhuang, Xigu, dahuoxiang, xiaohuoxiang, beixiaodaogan, Chunde street, Tangzi Hutong, nantouyao, xiguanwai, xiaoxiguan, Shuishui, xianchunyuan street, zhujiahuayuan, Xinhe street, liangjiazui, dingzigu new village T-shaped Gu, mustard garden. In November of the same year, Sanyuan village and Beixinzhuang were put under the jurisdiction of eight districts, and the number of street offices increased to 30. In March 1955, according to the organic law of local people's congresses and local people's committees of the people's Republic of China, the District People's government was renamed the District People's Committee. In January 1956, according to the notice of Tianjin Municipal People's Committee that the municipal district should be called by place name, the eighth district was renamed Hongqiao District because of the dahongqiao on Ziya River. In May of the same year, 28 sub district offices were merged into 17 sub district offices, namely: t-zi-zhi worker's new village, t-zi-gu, Xiyuzhuang, hongqiaobei, hongqiaonan, Hebei Street, shaogongzhuang, yingmenxi, Xizhan, santiaoshi, dahuoxiang, xianchunguo, Taiping Street, Chunde street, Tangzi Hutong, nantouyao and xiaoxiguan.
In October 1958, according to the decision of Tianjin Municipal People's Committee on the implementation of the new administrative division, the original northern suburb was divided into Hongqiao District, which was composed of 10 townships and towns, namely Sanyi village in the East, Xianhe village in the west, Yinxian village in the South and Hanwei village in the north. The boundary is: South to old fellow Bridge Street, North Road, West Road, West to city boundary, east to North Canal, north to Wuqing county. There are 11 sub district offices in the district: dingzigu worker's new village, Xigu, hongqiaonan, Hebei Street, shaogongzhuang, santaoshi, dahuoxiang, Chunde street, nantouyao and xiaoxiguan.
In 1960, the sub district office of Hongqiao District was merged into six people's communes, namely, t-zigu worker's new village, Xigu, Hebei Street, santiaoshi, dahuoxiang and nantouyao. In 1961, the government and society were divided into six communities and six streets.
In February 1962, according to the notice on the restoration of suburbs and the demarcation of suburban boundaries issued by the Municipal People's Commission, in 1958, Yuanshu was originally assigned to Beijiao District, and the demarcation with Nankai District was adjusted at the same time. Yangzhuangzi and Qianyuan to the east of Nankai District's north-south HengDi were originally assigned to Hongqiao District. The six people's communes are divided into nine people's communes: dahuoxiang, Chunde street, Hebei Street, shaogongzhuang, Xigu, hongqiaonan, santaoshi, nantouyao and dingzigu worker's new village. In October of the same year, the people's commune was abolished and the sub district office system was restored. There were 16 sub district offices: Hebei Street, Xizhan, shaogongzhuang, santiaoshi, dahuoxiang, xianchunyuan, Chunde street, nantouyao, Yihe street, xiaoxiguan, Xigu, hongqiaonan, Xiyuzhuang, dingzigu worker's new village and dingzigu.
At the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution" in 1966, Hongqiao District was renamed "Hongwei District". In December 1967, the Revolutionary Committee of Hongqiao District was established. The original district name was restored in January 1968.
In 1969, Yihe street was merged into nantouyao, Xizhan Street into Hebei Street, and 14 Street revolutionary committees were set up: Hebei Street, shaogongzhuang, santiaoshi, Dahutong, dahuoxiang, xianchunyuan, Chunde street, nantouyao, xiaoxiguan, Xigu, hongqiaonan, Xiyuzhuang, dingzigu worker's new village and dingzigu. In 1978, the street Revolutionary Committee was abolished and the street office was restored.
In May 1980, the Eighth People's Congress of Hongqiao District elected the people's Government of Hongqiao District. In the same year, Xianyang North Road Street office was added, and 15 Street offices were set up in Hongqiao District. In 1988, Xigu and Hongqiao South West Street were merged. From 1985 to 1990, two residential areas, jiayuanli and Shuanghuan, were built in the boundary of the northern suburb managed by Hongqiao District. Shuanghuan sub district office was established with the approval of the municipal government. Jiayuanli District Management Office was newly built in the same year. In 1993, jiayuanli District Management Office was merged into Shuanghuan sub district office.
