Bishan District Bishan district is subordinate to Chongqing, located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the west of Chongqing, and Chongqing metropolitan area. It was established in the second year of Zhide in Tang Dynasty, and got its name because of "white stone in the mountains, bright and smooth as Bi". In 2014, the county was divided into districts.

Historical evolution
Bishan, in the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, was located in the state of Ba.
In the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, in the fifth year of King Shenliang of Zhou (316 BC), Qin destroyed ba. In the first year of the reign of King Nan of Zhou Dynasty (314 BC), the Qin Dynasty established Jiangzhou County, Bajun county. In the Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, southern and Northern Dynasties, the system of Zhou Dynasty was followed. In the Sui Dynasty, Bishan district was located in Ba and Jiangjin counties.
In the Tang Dynasty, in the second year of Zhide (757), Bashan County, Jiangjin County and Wanshou county were located in Bishan County. It was named after an isolated mountain, which was steep in the northwest and slightly flat in the southeast. It was subordinate to Yuzhou. Its territory included today's Bishan District, Yongchuan City, Hangu town of Shapingba District and Chengjiang town of Beibei District. In 776, Yongchuan county was located in the southwest of Bishan.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, in the first year of Chongning (1102), Yuzhou was renamed Gongzhou. Bishan belonged to Gongzhou, one of the four Chuanxia roads. In the Southern Song Dynasty, in the 16th year of Chunxi (1189), Gongzhou was promoted to Chongqing Prefecture and Bishan belonged to it.
In the Yuan Dynasty, in the 22nd year of the Yuan Dynasty (1285), Bishan was incorporated into Baxian County, Sichuan Province, due to its vast territory and sparse population.
In the Ming Dynasty, in the 19th year of Chenghua (1483), Bishan County was restored to Chongqing government.
Qing Dynasty, the first year of Kangxi (1662), to "account is still small, stop Bishan County Quan, to forever and rule" (that is, Yongchuan county). In 1729, Bishan County was restored to Chongqing government of Sichuan Province. During the reign of Qianlong, Bishan was changed into Bishan.
In 1914, Bishan belonged to Eastern Sichuan. In 1936, Bishan was the third administrative supervision district in Sichuan Province.
On September 6, 1940, the Nationalist government designated the area of 80 kilometers around Chongqing on both sides of the Sichuan Chongqing and Chongqing Guizhou highways as Chongqing garrison area and the relocation area of its capital, of which Bishan belonged.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Bishan was under the jurisdiction of the administrative Commissioner's office of Baxian County, East Sichuan administrative region. On December 20, 1949, the office of the administrative Commissioner of Ba County was changed to Bishan and renamed Bishan Office of the administrative commissioner. It has jurisdiction over eight counties, namely Bishan, Jiangjin, Yongchuan, Dazu, Hechuan, Rongchang, Tongliang and Tongnan. In April 1951, Bishan special office moved to Jiangjin. In 1952, four administrative districts were abolished and Sichuan provincial system was restored. In 1960, the special office moved to Yongchuan.
In 1968, Jiangjin district was renamed as Jiangjin District, and in 1981, it was renamed as Yongchuan District. Bishan successively belonged to Jiangjin and Yongchuan districts.
On April 1, 1983, Yongchuan was incorporated into Chongqing.
On June 18, 1997, Chongqing resumed the establishment of a municipality directly under the central government, and Bishan was directly under the jurisdiction of Chongqing.
On May 2, 2014, Bishan County of Chongqing was abolished and Bishan District of Chongqing was established.
On July 15, 2014, Bishan district was officially put into operation.

In 1949, Bishan was divided into six administrative regions. The first to sixth district governments were stationed in Chengzhong Town, Daxing Township, Laifeng Township, Ding Township, Dalu Township and Batang township.
After several changes in 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1958, 1977 and 1978, by March 1980, Bishan was divided into seven administrative districts (Dalu, Batang, Chengjiao, Daxing, Zhengxing, Laifeng and Dingjia), one district level town (Bicheng), one township level town (Laifeng) and 38 communes.
In 1994, it was adjusted to 20 towns and 6 townships.
In 2003, the administrative division was adjusted to two streets, 10 towns and one township. They are Bicheng and Qinggang streets, Dingjia, Sanhe, Guangpu, Zhengxing, Daxing, Hebian, Fulu, Qitang, Batang, Dalu and Jianlong township. There are 34 residents' committees and 151 villagers' committees in the county.
After the adjustment of administrative divisions in 2010, there are 6 streets and 9 towns. There are six streets of Bicheng, Biquan, Qinggang, Laifeng, Dingjia and Dalu, and nine towns of Daxing, Zhengxing, Batang, Qitang, Hebian, Fulu, Guangpu, Sanhe and Jianlong.

Bishan district is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and Chongqing metropolitan area, close to the main urban area of Chongqing. Bishan district is located in the South arc structural belt of Chongqing, between wentangxia anticline and Libixia anticline in Huayingshan compound anticline.
