Lucheng District, located in the southeast of Zhejiang Province, is the political, economic and cultural center of Wenzhou. The total land area is 292.72 square kilometers.
Lucheng was first built in the first year of Taining in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (323 AD). It is said that when the city was built, there were white deer carrying flowers, so it was named Lucheng. Lucheng has been known as the "famous town of Dongou" for its numerous merchants since ancient times.
In 2018, it was selected as one of the top 100 areas in China in terms of investment potential, scientific and technological innovation, new urbanization quality and green development.
In October 2019, it ranked 48th in the list of top 100 districts with comprehensive strength (top 100 districts) and 12th in the list of top 100 districts with science and technology innovation. Historical evolution
Lucheng used to belong to Yongjia County. It is said that in the first year of Taining (323) of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Yongjia County was set up. When the city was built, there was the auspicious name of Bailu Yuhua. It is the seat of counties, prefectures, districts and counties. After liberation (May 1950), Wenzhou City was established in the south of Oujiang River in Yongjia County.
In 1981, the city was merged, and the original urban area was changed into a district, named Wenzhou City. It was renamed Lucheng District in 1984.
In 1996, Lucheng District covers an area of 88.3 square kilometers and has a population of 477000. It has jurisdiction over 16 streets, 1 town and 4 townships: Danan street, Xiaonan street, Guanghua Street, Wuma street, Shuixin street, Dongfeng Street, Shizhong street, Xishan street, Songtai street, Hongdian street, Lianchi street, Haitan street, Shuomen street, Gulou Street, pujiaoshi street, shangdoumen street, Shuangyu Town, Yangyi Township, Nanjiao Township, Chengjiao Township and liming township. The district government is located in Gulou Street.
In 1998, the total area of Lucheng District was 104 square kilometers. The total population is 502600. It has jurisdiction over 17 streets, 1 town, 4 townships and jiangxinyu office.
In 2001, the State Council put Tengqiao Town, Shangshu Township, Linjiang Town, Shuangchao Township, Aodi Township in Ouhai District and gualongqiao village, Shangtian village, yulingjia village and Qianwang village in Wulong town under the jurisdiction of Lucheng District; Puzhou village and shangpuzhou village in Puzhou town in Longwan District under the jurisdiction of Lucheng District; and central Tu neighborhood committee in Qidu Town and qiaoxia town in Yongjia County under the jurisdiction of Lucheng District. After the adjustment, the area of Lucheng district increased from 104 square kilometers to 294.38 square kilometers, and the population increased from 516800 to 603300.
On September 12, 2001, Zhejiang provincial government approved the adjustment of some administrative divisions in Lucheng District of Wenzhou City: (1) the system of Chengjiao Township and liming township was abolished, and all administrative districts outside Dongyu village and liming Township were directly under the central government of Lucheng District. (2) The Dongyu neighborhood committee of Dongyu village and Xiaonan street in the former suburban township is under the jurisdiction of Nanjiao township. Some administrative areas of Nanjiao township (Nantang, Dengta and Longshen villages) will be directly under the jurisdiction of Lucheng District government. After the adjustment, Nanjiao Township governs 5 villages and 2 residences, and is located at No. 27-1, Niushan North Road (original site). (3) Part of Shuangyu town (three villages including Longtian, shuangao, ruoli'ao and six residences including Wenhua living area, Xinze, Yunfeng, Qixia, Yuequan and Linfeng) will be directly under the jurisdiction of Lucheng District government. After the adjustment, Shuangyu town governs 9 villages and 4 residences, and is located at 138 Wenjin Road (original site). (4) After the adjustment and expansion of the areas directly under the central government of Lucheng District government, several sub district offices will be set up together with the adjustment of the original areas directly under the central government.
