In 1946, Chongqing was divided into 18 districts. The first to the eighth districts were in Yuzhong District. During this period, the district has always been the seat of Chongqing municipal government. geographical environment
geographical position
Yuzhong District is located in the southwest of Chongqing, at the confluence of Yangtze River and Jialing River. Yuzhong District is surrounded by water in the East, South and North, and land in the West. It is a narrow peninsula in east-west direction. Yuzhong District is adjacent to the Yangtze River in the East and south, the waters of South Bank district, Jialing River in the north, Jiangbei District, Shapingba District and Jiulongpo District in the West. Between 29 ° 31 ′ 50 ″ - 29 ° 34 ′ 20 ″ north latitude and 106 ° 28 ′ 50 ″ - 106 ° 35 ′ 10 ″ east longitude, the water and land area of Yuzhong District is 23.24 square kilometers, including 20.08 square kilometers of land area.
geological structure
Yuzhong District is located in the Chongqing synclinorium of the transition zone between Huayingshan broom fold bundle and Chongqing parallel fold bundle of the Xinhua Xia Chongqing arc structural belt. Its structural framework was formed in the late Yanshanian fold movement. The structural features from east to West are as follows: Nanwenquan anticline and guanyinxia anticline on the East and west sides respectively, and Chongqing Syncline in the middle.
Chongqing synclinorium is composed of a series of nearly parallel NNE trending gentle folds. From west to East, there are jin'aosi (Hualongqiao) syncline, longwangdong anticline, Shapingba Chongqing (Jiefangbei) syncline. Except Shapingba Chongqing (Jiefangbei) syncline, the rest are nne-ssw trending and turn to SN trending. The folds in the area are gentle and open with gentle dip. The axis and wing are composed of sandstone and mudstone of shangshaximiao formation. The dip angle of folds is 2-8 ° and the occurrence of rocks is gentle with dip angle of 3-6 °.
topographic features
Yuzhong District is a parallel ridge valley area in East Sichuan, which is dominated by denudation structure. The geomorphic type is obviously controlled by lithology and geological structure. The anticline is generally uplifted into mountains, and the syncline is eroded for a long time to form hills. The Yangtze River and Jialing River flow through the gentle open fold area composed of sandstone and mudstone of shangshaximiao formation with different thickness for a long time, continuously scouring and eroding the riverbed. During the period of relative crustal rise, the river cuts down and the bank slope rises. During the period of relative stability of the earth's crust, the river's side erosion makes the bank slope of the scoured (eroded) bank steeper, often forms a high and steep bank slope on the scoured bank, and accumulates a large amount of alluvial material on the accumulation bank. At the same time, under the weathering and gravity geological action and the continuous development of human engineering activities, the soft mudstone slope with gentle occurrence and thick and large sandstone caprock appears high and steep soft foundation bank slope, which alternates with each other, constantly changing the shape of the valley, and the bank slope becomes high and steep, forming the unique Valley denudation platform slope landform in central Chongqing.
In Yuzhong District, the highest point of eling is 394 meters above sea level, and the lowest point of shazuijiao is 167 meters at the confluence of the two rivers in Chaotianmen, with a relative height difference of 227 meters.
climate

According to the meteorological data, the annual average temperature is 17.6 ° C, the extreme maximum temperature is 42.2 ° C, and the extreme minimum temperature is - 1.8 ° C; the annual frost free period is 341.9 days, and the average fog day is 30-40 days; the annual average rainfall is 1088.8 mm, the maximum is 1518.7 mm (1916), and the minimum is 644.3 mm (1939), Landslide and other geological disasters are often induced.
hydrology
The rivers in Yuzhong District belong to the Jialing River and the Yangtze River system. The Yangtze River flows through the survey area from south to East, and the Jialing River enters from west to East and joins the Yangtze River at Chaotianmen. The Yangtze River enters the huangshaxi River and flows northward through Caiyuanba and Chaotianmen. Jialing River enters at Dishuiyan of Hualongqiao and flows eastward through Liziba and Niujiaotuo to Chaotianmen to join the Yangtze River.
