Taocheng District of Hengshui City, formerly known as county-level Hengshui City, evolved from Hengshui county.
In the Western Han Dynasty, it was located in Taoxian county. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Taocheng post was set up.
Hengshui county was established in the 16th year of kaihuang (596 A.D.) in the Sui Dynasty. Although the ownership of Hengshui county has changed many times in the past dynasties, the territory has not changed in general.
After the founding of new China, Hengshui county belongs to Hengshui district. The office of the Commissioner is located in Hengshui county.
In November 1952, Hengshui special office was abolished and Hengshui county was assigned to Shijiazhuang special area.
In December 1958, Wuyi, Zaoqiang and Ji counties were abolished and merged into Hengshui county.
In May 1960, Shijiazhuang district was abolished, and Hengshui county was transferred to Shijiazhuang city.
