As far back as four thousand years ago, when Dayu controlled the flood, Yueyi was one of the nine states, Liangzhou.
In the pre Qin period, it belonged to the "Southwest Yi land". In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC) of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty, Yueyi county was set up. Today, Yuexi county is the "Lan county" adjacent to Yueyi county.
In the third year of the Northern Zhou Dynasty (568), qiongbu county was set up until the Sui and Tang Dynasties.
The Song Dynasty was qiongbu Chuan, and the Yuan Dynasty was qiongbu Zhou.
In the 25th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1392), Yueyu Wei was set up, and in the Qing Dynasty it was called Yueyu hall.
In 1913, Yueyi county was changed. During the long march of the Red Army in 1935, Zuoquan, Liu Yalou and Zhang Aiping led the feint troops to pass through Yueyi.
It was liberated in 1950 and ended the civil reform in 1956. In 1959, with the approval of the State Council, puxiong county was abolished and merged into Yuexi County, and then it was renamed as Yuexi County.
