Wugang City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province and managed by Shaoyang City, is located in the southwest of Hunan Province, the eastern foot of Xuefeng, the northern edge of Nanling and the upper reaches of Zishui. The terrain is surrounded by mountains in the East, West and south, and the middle part is low and flat, inclined from south to north. Historical evolution
According to the records of Hunan Province in 1981, "a stone seal of Wugang Changyin of the Western Han Dynasty was unearthed in the suburbs of Changsha. Wugang was once known as the capital of Liang. "Yuanhe county annals" said: "Wugang West 20 miles have all Liangshan, North five miles have tongbaoshan, namely Wugang mountain." During the reign of Emperor Wen and Emperor Jing of the Western Han Dynasty (179-141 BC), Wugang county was established and subordinate to Changsha County.
In the fifth year of Yuanshuo (124 BC), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty granted Liu Sui, the son of King Ding of Changsha, the Marquis of the capital Liang. The Marquis's site is now Qiliqiao in the suburb of the city, which lasted 131 years.
In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC) of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty, Wugang county was changed into Duliang County, belonging to Lingling county.
In the first year of Wu Baoding in the Three Kingdoms (266), it was renamed Wugang county and subordinate to Zhaoling county.
In the first year of Taikang (280), Wugang county was divided into three counties, namely Wugang County, Duliang county and Jianxing county.
In the first year of Jianwu (317), emperor yuan of Jin granted Wangdao the title of Marquis of Wugang.
From the Eastern Jin Dynasty to the end of the Sui Dynasty, Wugang county was renamed Wugang County, Wuqiang county and Wuyou County successively; in the fourth year of Wude, Emperor Gaozu of Tang Dynasty, Wugang county was renamed again, and its governing place was now Chengbu County, which was subordinate to Shaozhou; in the early Song Dynasty, the governing place of Wugang county was moved to Wugang City.
In 1106, Wugang county was promoted to Wugang army, leading Wugang County, Suining County and Lingang county.
In 1276, the emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty set up an Fusi in Wugang. The next year, it was changed into the general manager's office of Wugang Road, which led Wugang, Suining and Xinning counties and was subordinate to Hunan Road.

In October 1423, the 18th son of Zhu Yuanzhang, the king of min, was renamed the city of Wugang from Yunnan Province and built the king's residence, which lasted 232 years.
In April of the fourth year of Shunzhi (1671), Zhu Youlang, the king of Guangxi in the Southern Ming Dynasty, established the Yongli Dynasty and moved to Wugang. He took minwang mansion as his palace and changed Wugang Prefecture into Fengtian Prefecture. In August, Yongli emperor defeated Guizhou and Yunnan, and Wugang was restored to Wugang Prefecture.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Wugang Prefecture magistrate's office was changed into Wugang Prefecture Administrative Department; in September of the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Wugang Prefecture was changed into Wugang County, which was subordinate to Xiangjiang Road, and later abandoned road was directly subordinate to Hunan Province.
When the people's Republic of China was founded, Wugang county was subordinate to Shaoyang Commissioner's office.
In April 1994, with the approval of the State Council, Wugang county was abolished and Wugang City was established.
