Cenxi Cenxi city (Zhuang: cinzhih), a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is managed by Wuzhou City. It is located in the southeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, at the junction of Guangdong and Guangxi. It is one of the joint points of the exchanges between Guangdong and Guangxi, the Pearl River Delta economic circle and the southwest. The terrain is high in the southeast and low in the northwest. It is a typical subtropical monsoon climate zone. The total area is 2783 square kilometers. In 2015, the total population was 944600.

As of 2013, Cenxi city has 14 towns including cencheng, Nuodong, Chengjian, Guiyi, Jinzhu, Daye, Limu, Dalong, Nandu, Malu, Sanbao, Botang, Anping and Shuiwen.

In 2016, Cenxi achieved a GDP of 27.045 billion yuan. On January 9, 2019, niuniang opera was selected into the list of "hometown of Chinese folk culture and art" from 2018 to 2020.

Historical evolution

In the early Han Dynasty, Zhao Tuo established Nanyue state, and Cenxi city was subordinate to Nanyue state. In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC) in the Western Han Dynasty, Mengling County, Cangwu County, was set up after Pingnan Yue. Today, most of the city is Mengling county.

In the fifth year of Zhengguang (524), Yongye county was set up in most areas of Cenxi City, and its governance was in Jinzhu old county.

Sui kaihuang three years (583) abandoned County, changed to Yongye county. Once the county was abolished, it was restored in the 16th year of kaihuang (596).

In 622, Yongye county was set up as Nanyi Prefecture, which was divided into Anyi (in the east of today's city), Longcheng (in the middle of today's Cenxi city) and Yicheng (in the west of today's Cenxi city). The Prefecture was located in Longcheng county. In the second year of Zhide (757), Anyi county was changed into Yongye County, and Longcheng county was changed into Cenxi County, which is the beginning of the name of Cenxi county.

In the sixth year of Kaibao of Song Dynasty (973), three counties of nanyizhou were merged into Cenxi county. After that, except for the changes of membership, the name and establishment of Cenxi County remained basically unchanged.

In 1951 and 1953, Nuodong district and Sanbao District, which originally belonged to Teng County, were successively assigned to Cenxi county. So far, Cenxi county has 17 people's communes under its jurisdiction.

In October 1984, the commune was transformed into a township, and the brigade into a village committee. The county was divided into 13 townships and 4 towns.

In August 1989, six townships including Jinzhu, Sanbao, Chengjian, Malu, Botang and Shuiwen were changed into towns, and the county was divided into 16 towns and 1 township.

In September 1995, Cenxi county was set up as a city (county-level city), still under the jurisdiction of Wuzhou.

In April 1997, it was transferred to Wuzhou City.

Most of Cenxi city belongs to the hilly area in the eastern part of the northern foot of Yunkai mountain, with high terrain in the southeast and low terrain in the northwest. Yunkai mountain and goulou mountain are the mountain ranges in the territory. The top of Tuzhu in the southwest is the highest mountain in the territory, with an altitude of 1211 meters. The lowest point is the Dumu River Valley in the northwest, with an altitude of 50 meters.
