Gangnan District Gangnan district is the District of Guigang City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is a county-level district established after the establishment of Guigang City in 1996. It is located on the Bank of Yuhe River in Xijiang River Basin of golden waterway, Southeast of Guigang City, South Bank of Yujiang River, adjacent to Xingye County in the East, Pubei County in the south, Heng County in the west, and Gangbei district and Guiping City in the north.
In the south of Hong Kong, there are double tracks of Li Zhan railway, 324 National Highway and Nanning Guangzhou expressway running through the whole area. The golden waterway Xijiang River flows through four towns in the area. It can pass thousand ton freighters all the year round to Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. It is an important transportation hub in Guangxi and an important channel for Southwest material export.
By the end of 2010, Gangnan district had a total area of 1089 square kilometers, six towns, two townships, one street, 165 village committees and a population of 635600. On December 6, 2019, it was selected as the pilot unit of promoting the quality improvement of farmers' cooperatives in the whole county.
Historical evolution
In the Qin Dynasty, Gangnan District belonged to Guilin county. In the late Qin Dynasty, it was renamed Yuzhou. From the Han Dynasty to the southern and Northern Dynasties, it belonged to Yulin County in the song and Qi dynasties. From 558 to 589 ad, it belonged to nandingzhou.
In the Sui Dynasty, Dingzhou was changed into Yinzhou, so it belonged to Yinzhou. Daye two years, known as Yulin County, and Madu County belong to Guangzhou. It belonged to Guizhou in the ninth year of Zhenguan in Tang Dynasty and Guizhou in the period of Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms.
In the fifth year of Kaibao in Song Dynasty, Gangnan District, together with huaize, Yishan, Chaoshui and Yuping, was called Yulin County, belonging to huaize County of Guizhou Province. Huaize county was withdrawn in Yuan Dynasty and returned to Guizhou Province. In the second year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty, it was demoted to Guixian County, belonging to Xunzhou Prefecture. In the Qing Dynasty, it was still called Guixian, which was the capital of Xunzhou in Guangxi Province.
In 1912, Guixian belonged to Xunzhou Prefecture; in 1914, Guixian belonged to cangwudao; in 1932, Guixian belonged to Wuzhou militia district; from 1947 to 1949, Guixian belonged to the ninth administrative supervision district; after the founding of the people's Republic of China, Guixian belonged to Yulin district at first; in July 1951, Guixian belonged to Nanning District; in August of the same year, Guixian belonged to Binyang district. August 1952 belongs to Rongxian district. In July 1958, it belonged to Yulin special area. In 1971, the special zone was changed into a district, and Gangnan district belongs to Yulin district.
In December 1988, the county was changed into a city and renamed Guigang City. In October 1995, it was upgraded to a prefecture level city with the approval of the State Council. It was newly divided into Gangbei District, Gangnan district and qintang district.
On June 18, 1996, the government of the autonomous region approved that 15 village offices (neighborhood committees) of Nanjiang village and musongling neighborhood committee of Gangnan District, Gaobei and Daxin of Batang Town, Dazheng, Xicun, Zizhi, shanbian, Sanping, Sanan and Chencun of Xintang Township, Xinlu, Suwan, Xinmeng and Bancun of Hengling Township, etc. were under the jurisdiction of Guicheng town of Gangbei district; and the government of Gangnan district was stationed in Qiaowei town.
In 1996, Gangnan District covered an area of 1028 square kilometers with a population of about 500000. It has jurisdiction over 6 towns and 5 townships: Qiaowei Town, Batang Town, Muge Town, Muzi Town, Zhanjiang Town, Dongjin Town, Pingyue Township, Watang Township, Sihuai Township, Hengling Township and Xintang township. The district government is stationed in Qiaoxu town.
According to the fifth census in 2000, the total population of Gangnan district is 392427. Among them, there are 79445 in Qiaowei Town, 50934 in Muge Town, 39030 in Muzi Town, 46320 in Zhanjiang Town, 52581 in Dongjin Town, 25898 in Batang Town, 24224 in Xintang Town, 25861 in Watang Town, 18346 in Pingyue Town, 16182 in Hengling town and 13606 in Sihuai town.
On February 28, 2001, the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZH No. 26) agreed to put the village committees of musongling, Nanjiang, Sanping, shanbian, Dazheng, Sapium sebiferum, San'an, Xinlu, Xinmeng, Suwan, Gaobei, Daxin, Chencun, Xicun and Bancun in Guicheng town of Gangbei district under the jurisdiction of Gangnan District, and the above 15 village committees were put under the management of sub district offices or towns It is decided by Guigang municipal government; Gangnan district and Gangbei district are bounded by Yujiang River; the government residence of Gangnan district will be moved back to Jiangnan Avenue from Qiaowei town.
In 2003, Gangnan District governed one street, six towns and five townships: Jiangnan street, Qiaowei Town, Muge Town, Muzi Town, Zhanjiang Town, Dongjin Town, Batang Town, Xintang Township, Watang Township, Pingyue Township, Hengling Township and Sihuai township.
On July 19, 2005, the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZH No. 206) agreed to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns in Gangnan District: abolish Sihuai Township and merge the whole system into Watang Town, and the government residence of Watang town remains unchanged; abolish Hengling Township and merge the whole system into Batang town, and the government residence of Batang town remains unchanged; abolish Pingyue Township and merge the whole system into Muge Town, and the government residence of Muge town remains unchanged.
