Tianhe District Tianhe District, subordinate to Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, is located in the east of Guangzhou city. It was established in 1985 by the suburb of Guangzhou. It is connected with Huangpu District in the East, Haizhu District across the Pearl River in the south, Yuexiu District in the West and Guangzhou Avenue in the West, and Baiyun District in the north. It has a total administrative area of 96.33 square kilometers and 21 streets. By the end of 2019, 965 thousand and 700 registered residence households, an increase of 2.8%, and 1 million 788 thousand and 500 permanent residents, an increase of 2.4%.
Tianhe District is the new Central District of Guangzhou city. It is located on the new central axis of the city, connecting the West and the East, and connecting the north to the south. In 2019, the GDP of Tianhe District is 504.739 billion yuan, an increase of 8%; the per capita GDP is 285600 yuan, an increase of 6.7%.
Historical evolution
As early as the Neolithic period, there were human settlements in Tianhe District. In Feieling and Longdong villages in the northeast of Tianhe District, Neolithic and pottery were excavated and found successively.
Tombs of the Eastern Han Dynasty were found in Jishan village, Tianhe District, and tombs of the Western Jin Dynasty were found in shaheiding. During the Zhenguan period of Tang Dynasty, temples were built in Longdong village, and the villages were basically formed in the Southern Song Dynasty. The ancestors of the villagers moved from the Central Plains to the south.
Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, Tianhe District basically belonged to Panyu county. Since the founding of the people's Republic of China, the jurisdiction has been changed many times. From October 1973 to May 1985, before the establishment of the District, all the districts belonged to the suburbs of Guangzhou.

On May 24, 1985, Tianhe District was separated from the suburbs of Guangzhou and became an administrative district under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou. When the district was built, only Shahe street, Wushan street, Yuancun street, chebei street, Shahe district (town) (including Tonghe Township, Jingxi township) and Dongpu district (town) were built. At that time, it covered an area of 102.5 square kilometers and had a population of 204 000. Since then, the scope of jurisdiction has been adjusted many times.
In September 1987, Tonghe town (composed of Tonghe Township and Jingxi township) was put under the jurisdiction of Baiyun District, Guangzhou city. In April 1992, Yangji village was transferred from Dongshan District to Tianhe District; in March 1994, kemulung village and yushatan village were transferred from Fenghuang agricultural and Industrial Co., Ltd. to Tianhe District. In August 1994, the second team of Shadong Village (Natural Village) was transferred from Dongshan District to Tianhe District. In September 2000, four administrative villages, Xintang, Mupi, Lingtang and Yushu, originally owned by Xintang agricultural and industrial company, were handed over to Tianhe District.
With the development of urbanization in Tianhe District, administrative streets are gradually set up in suburban villages. From 1991 to 2000, eight new streets were established. By the end of 2000, Tianhe District had 14 administrative streets including Shahe, Wushan, chebei, Yuancun, Shipai, Dengfeng, Tianhe, Linhe, Shadong, Xinghua, Tangxia, Liede, Xiancun and Tianyuan, and 2 towns including Shahe and Dongpu.
In December 2002, Shahe Town and Dongpu town were abolished. On June 7, 2005, Dengfeng street and Yangji village were assigned to Yuexiu District, while Yushu village in Xintang street was assigned to Luogang district.

Tianhe District is located in the east of the old urban area of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It is connected with Huangpu District in the east to Jishan Shishan and Qianjin Shenyong. The general terrain of Tianhe District inclines from north to south, forming a three-level platform of low mountains and hills, platform and alluvial plain. Among them, hilly area is 28.41 square kilometers, accounting for 20.72%; platform area is 21.85 square kilometers, accounting for 15.94%; plain (including alluvial plain, wide valley and basin) is 86.84 square kilometers, accounting for 63.34%.
Tianhe area can be divided into three areas according to the terrain: the north is a low mountain and hilly area mainly composed of igneous rocks, with an altitude of 222-400 meters; the middle is a platform area mainly composed of metamorphic rocks, with an altitude of 30-50 meters; the south is an alluvial plain area composed of sedimentary rocks, with an altitude of 1.5-2 meters.
The geology of Central Taiwan area is complex. There is granite residual soil layer from Yuangang Tianhe passenger station to Shipai South China Normal University, which is easy to soften and disintegrate when encountering water. There are boulders in the ground of Wushan, with very high hardness. The Shougouling underground fault zone (16 meters underground of the kindergarten of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences) has jet groundwater.
The low mountains in the north are generally centered on shaujiwo reservoir and arranged in East and west sides, which is the boundary between Tianhe District, Huangpu District and Baiyun District. The highest point in the region is dahezhang (391 meters), which is located in the north. The ridge boundary is yushatan village in Tianhe District and Taihe Town in Baiyun District. Taking dahezhang as the base point, there are 11 mountain tops with an altitude of 261-388 meters in the East, such as dipemashan (388 meters), Fenghuang Mountain (373.3 meters) and shishiding (304 meters), and 9 mountain tops with an altitude of 147-312 meters in the west, such as dongqifeng (312 meters). There is Huolu mountain (322 meters) to the south of Shau jiwo reservoir. Reservoirs, wide valleys and basins such as shaujiwo, Longdong and South China Botanical Garden are formed in the lower central part of the north. There are Jishan platform and Wushan platform in the central platform from east to west. There is a prominent Shougouling (131 m) in the Wushan platform.
The southern alluvial plain is distributed in Qianjin, chebei, Yuancun, Shipai and Liede along the Pearl River to the south of Guangzhou Shenzhen railway.

Tianhe District is located in the south of Tropic of cancer and belongs to subtropical monsoon climate.
Temperature: after 1991, with the global warming, the temperature in Tianhe District is also warming. The temperature in the 1990s was 0.1-0.2 ℃ higher than that in the 1980s. On June 6, 2000, the highest temperature in Tianhe District was 36.6 ℃, the highest temperature in the same period of 50 years. The cold wave mainly occurs from December at the end of the year to February of the next year.
Rainfall: since 1991, the annual average rainfall in Tianhe District has decreased. It was 1800-1900 mm from the beginning of the people's Republic of China to the 1960s, 1600-1800 mm from the 1970s to the 1980s, and 1781.8 mm from 1991 to 2000. Rainstorms are mainly concentrated in April to September in summer and autumn, usually with six thunderstorms per year.
