Gaoyou Gaoyou is a county-level city under the management of Yangzhou City in Jiangsu Province. Gaoyou has a civilization history of more than 7000 years and a history of 2244 years (up to 2021). Known as the famous District of Jiangzuo and the first city of Guangling in history, it is the hometown of Emperor Yao and the birthplace of Yao culture. It is an important area of Jianghuai civilization and postal culture. As early as 7000 years ago, the ancestors cultivated and multiplied here. Ying Zheng, king of Qin Dynasty, built a high platform and set up a post office here in 223 BC, so it was named Gaoyou. It is also called Qinyou. There is no similar city in China. It is the only city named after Gaoyou in China.
At present, there are 1 World Heritage site, 2 4A scenic spots, 6 3A scenic spots, 6 national key cultural relics protection units: yuchengyi, longqiuzhuang site, Gaoyou pawnshop, Gaoyou canal of Ming and Qing Dynasties, zhenguosi pagoda, pingjinyan. Gaoyou folk songs are included in the national intangible cultural heritage list, and Gaoyou section of the canal is included in the world heritage list.
Historical evolution
Gaoyou is a low-lying plain of Lixiahe river. The longqiuzhuang site, which represents the prehistoric culture in the east of Jianghuai region, shows that there was a splendid civilization of human beings in the territory more than 7000 years ago.
In the spring and Autumn period, the territory belonged to Wu Xinggou, and Yue belonged to Yue.
In the Warring States period, Chu belonged to Chu.
In the 24th year of emperor Yingzheng of Qin Dynasty (223 BC), he destroyed Chu and belonged to Qin. He built a high platform and set up a post office, which was named Qin you.
In the sixth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (201 BC), the northern border of Guangling county was divided into Gaoyou county (governing Gaoyou town of today's city) and Dongyang county (governing Guangling county). It belongs to Jing state, Wu state and Jiangdu state successively. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Gaoyou County belonged to Guangling county. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Gaoyou county was abolished.
At the beginning of the Three Kingdoms period, it was located in Guangling County of Xuzhou in the Wei Dynasty. In 224, Gaoyou county was abolished. Later, it belonged to Wu.
In 280, Emperor Wu of Jin Dynasty restored Gaoyou county to Guangling County of Xuzhou. In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it was changed to Guangling county. In the first year of Taiyu (472), Emperor Ming of Song Dynasty set Gaoyou County as Guangling county. Gaoyou and other counties are located in Linze County, which is subordinate to Hailing County of Nanchong Prefecture. Nanliang, located in Guangye County, governs Gaoyou County, Gaoyou County, Zhutang county and Sangui county. Later, it was renamed Shennong county. Linze County is still the capital of Hailing (now Hailing District of Taizhou City).
In 583, Zhutang, Sangui and Linze counties were merged into Gaoyou County, directly under Wuzhou (now Guangling District of Yangzhou City), and later Jiangdu county
In the Tang Dynasty, Gaoyou County successively belonged to Nanchong, Hanzhou, Yangzhou, Guangling county and Yangzhou (all present Yangzhou). In the first year of Tianbao (742), Jiangdu County, Liuhe County and Gaoyou county were designated, and Qianqiu county was set up in some areas. In the seventh year of Tianbao (748), Tianchang county was renamed.
In the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, Gaoyou County successively belonged to wudujiang Dufu, jiangdufu in the Southern Tang Dynasty, and dududufu in Yangzhou in the Later Zhou Dynasty.
In the early Northern Song Dynasty, Gaoyou county still belonged to Yangzhou. In the fourth year of Kaibao (971), he was promoted to Gaoyou army, and still set up Gaoyou County, directly under the capital. Xining five years (1072), Gaoyou army abandoned, the county also belongs to Yangzhou. Yuanyou the first year (1086), the restoration of Gaoyou army, Huainan Road Transport Secretary. In 1277, Gaoyou road was set up, which governed Gaoyou and Xinghua counties. In 1277, it was changed into Gaoyou Prefecture, governing Gaoyou, Xinghua and BAOYING counties, belonging to Yangzhou road. At the end of Yuan Dynasty, Gaoyou was changed into Sanfu.
At the beginning of Ming Dynasty, the government was transferred to the county. In the first year of Hongwu (1368), Gaoyou Prefecture was established by changing the county to lead Xinghua and BAOYING counties, belonging to Yangzhou Prefecture. In 1371, he was promoted to gaoyouwei.
In 1644, the first year of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty, Gaoyou Prefecture was established, belonging to Yangzhou Prefecture, and soon became Sanzhou.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the state was abolished as a county.
Gaoyou County, which is under the jurisdiction of Yundong region, successively belongs to the first administrative region of Central Jiangsu, the second administrative region of Jiangsu Anhui border region, the central China administrative office and the leaders of Yangzhou administrative region; the area south of Chengzi River in Gaoyou successively belongs to Jianggao administrative region and Jiangdu County; the Lingtang area in the west of Gaoyou Lake successively belongs to Tiangao County, Ganquan County, Dongnan County, Yiyang County and Yizheng county.
In 1949, Gaoyou county was still established.

In 1983, Yangzhou district was abolished and a prefecture level Yangzhou city was established, which was changed to Yangzhou city.

As of May 2017, Gaoyou City has jurisdiction over 2 streets, 10 towns and 1 township: Gaoyou street, economic development zone (Mapeng Street), Longqiu Town, Tangzhuang Town, Jiejia Town, Sanduo Town, Ganduo Town, Jieshou Town, Zhoushan Town, Linze Town, Songqiao Town, Chengnan economic new area (Cheluo town) and Lingtang Hui Township. Gaoyou is located in the geographical and geometric center of Jiangsu Province, in the middle of Jiangsu Province and the west edge of Lixia River in the Yangtze River Delta. It is adjacent to Taizhou City and Xinghua City in the East, Jiangdu District, Hanjiang District and Yizheng City in the south, Tianchang City of Chuzhou City and Jinhu County of Huai'an City in Anhui Province in the west, and Baoying County in the north, between 32 ° 38 '- 33 ° 05' n and 119 ° 13 '- 119 ° 50' E. Topography
The terrain is slightly higher in the southwest and lower in the northeast, most of which are water plains. The southwest part of Gaoyou Lake belongs to the end of Yiliu low mountains and hills, most of which are 15-20 meters above sea level. The highest part is Shenju mountain (volcanic lava), which is 49.5 meters above sea level. Lixiahe low-lying plain in the east of Gaoyou section of Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal is formed by ancient lagoon sedimentation, and canals form a network. There are thousands of hectares of fertile land, with the general altitude of 0.85-4.8 meters, and the lowest altitude of 0.75 meters.

55.3% of the water area of Gaoyou Lake is in Gaoyou city. The northern waters of Shaobo lake and the northeast corner of Luyang lake also belong to Gaoyou city. There are 19 major rivers in the territory: Gaoyou section of Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal, Chengtong River, Longxugou, Renzi River, zhangyegou, Xiaojinggou, Sanyang River, the third ditch, Nanchengzi River, nanguandagou, Beichengzi River, Dongping River, Hengjing River, Lu'an River, xinlu'an River, erlidagou River, Ziying River, Tianling River and Xiangyang river.
