Hengshan County Hengshan County, under the jurisdiction of Hengyang City, Hunan Province, is located in the east of central Hunan and the middle reaches of Xiangjiang River. It borders Hengdong County in the East, Hengnan County in the south, Hengyang County and Shuangfeng County in the west, Xiangtan County in the north, and Nanyue District of Hengyang City in the middle. Geographical coordinates: east longitude 112 ° 27 ′ ~ 112 ° 57 ′, north latitude 26 ° 58 ′ ~ 27 ° 28 ′. The origin of place names
Hengshan County was established in the Western Jin Dynasty. According to Jin Xian Shi Ming: "Hengshan Mountain in Northwest China is a South Mountain. It is like a car cover and a yoke, so it is named." The county got its name from Hengshan.
Hengshan has a long history of more than 1700 years, which is named after the Nanyue Mountain in the territory.

In ancient times, China was divided into Kyushu, Hengshan is Jingzhou, Huangfu.
Xia and Shang Dynasties remained unchanged, and they were the places where Sanmiao barbarians and Yangyue lived together.
In the third year of King Kuang of Zhou Dynasty (610 BC), the Zhou Dynasty fought with Chu, and Chu was defeated greatly. The Yong state led the small state of Chu to submit to the special state of Chu (in the Tianhe area of Yunxi County, Hubei Province), and Luo, Baipu, man and others rebelled against Chu. The king of Chu Zhuang led the Chu army to attack by retreating. They defeated each other and destroyed more than ten small countries, such as Yong, Luo, Baipu, and so on. Then they concentrated their forces to attack Zhuozi. After seven battles, he was defeated. The people of Zhuzi fled to CaoShi, Yanglin, Gaotang, Nanwan and Youxian in Hengshan County. After they had established themselves, they settled in Hengshan County and established the state of Zhuzi. Therefore, Hengshan County was called Zhuzi in the spring and Autumn period.

The name of Hengshan was changed in Jin Dynasty. In 290 ad, the first year of Yongxi reign of emperor Hui of the Western Jin Dynasty, Hengyang County was renamed Hengshan County, belonging to Hengyang County of Jingzhou. In August of the first year of Yongjia (307), it was changed to Xiangzhou. In the 13th year of Yixi (417), the Eastern Jin Dynasty returned to Jingzhou.

In 1329, Tanzhou road was renamed Tianlin road. In the 24th year of Zhizheng reign, Tianlin road was changed to Hengzhou Prefecture, which belonged to Hengshan County.
In the early Ming Dynasty, Hongwu was still attached to Hengzhou Prefecture. There were 32 Li households (administrative units below the county level in the old days) and 17 Li households later. During the period of the Republic of China, the Prefecture was abolished and the county was directly under Hunan Province.
In August 1949, Hunan Province was peacefully liberated. Hengyang City was changed from a provincial city to a county-level city. Hengshan County was under the jurisdiction of Hengyang special district. Hengshan County includes today's Hengshan County, Hengdong County and Nanyue District.
In 1950, Hengyang City was upgraded to a prefecture level city with one to eight districts (reported by Hunan Provincial People's Government on January 5, 1950)

In 1952, Hengyang, Chenzhou and Lingling were abolished and southern Hunan Administrative Region (prefecture level) was established. In 2005, Kaiyun town merged with shigu township to set up a new Kaiyun town (town government in zhaojiadawu). In 2009, "Hunan province directly governing county system reform proposal" announced that Hengshan County, Hengdong County and Nanyue District will be merged into Hengshan City, and the administrative level will be upgraded to deputy department level.
On June 7, 2010, the joint meeting of Hengyang municipal Party committee and Hengyang municipal government put forward the plan of "expanding the city and surrounding mountains", which plans to assign Dianmen town of Hengshan County to Nanyue District of Hengyang City, and open up the "enclave" between Nanyue District and Hengyang City, so as to resist the merging of Nanyue District into Hengshan County and achieve the long-term control of Nanyue District by Hengyang City.
