Nanyue District Nanyue District, subordinate to Hengyang City, Hunan Province, is located in the southeast of the central part of Hunan Province. It is located in the hilly area of central Hunan in the northwest of Xiangjiang River, and in the north of Hengyang City. With Nanyue ancient town as the center, it is surrounded by Hengshan County in the north, East and south, and adjacent to Jiepai Town of Hengyang County in the west, with a total area of 181.5 square kilometers.
Nanyue was the territory of Hengzhou in ancient times. At the end of 1961, Nanyue Administration Bureau was renamed Nanyue County, and Nanyue District was officially established in 1984. Hengshan, one of the five famous mountains in China, is one of the first batch of national key scenic spots, the first batch of national 5A scenic spots, national nature reserves and national civilized scenic spots. The coexistence of Taoism and Buddhism in Hengshan Mountain, Nanyue, with one mountain, one temple, one temple and one God, is known as a unique religious culture in China and even in the world. The origin of place names
The word "Nanyue" began in the spring and Autumn period and Warring States period. It belonged to Chu in ancient times and was originally named Tanzhou. According to the records of Huguang Tongzhi, Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty ordered Hengshan to be Nanyue, also known as Yueshi.
History of construction
Nanyue was the territory of Hengzhou in ancient times.
After the unification of China by Qin Dynasty, Hengshan Mountain belonged to Hengyang County.
In the second year of Taiping (257), King wukuaiji of the Three Kingdoms was subordinate to Hengyang County.
In the first year of Yongxi (290), Emperor Huidi of Jin Dynasty changed Hengyang County to Hengshan County, which was the beginning of the county name.
It belongs to Hengzhou Prefecture in Sui Dynasty, Hengzhou Prefecture in Tang Dynasty, Hengyang Prefecture in Song Dynasty, Hengzhou road in Yuan Dynasty and Hengzhou Prefecture in Ming and Qing Dynasty.
During the period of the Republic of China, the government abolished the government and kept the road, which was directly under Hengyang road.
In the 1950s, Hengshan County belonged to the southern Hunan Administrative Region (Hengyang City), Hengyang district.
At the beginning of 1960, Nanyue commune and Nanyue town were assigned to Nanyue Administration Bureau of Hengyang City. At the end of the next year, Nanyue Administration Bureau was renamed Nanyue county.
In 1966, Nanyue county was abolished and Hengdong County was established by separating the area east of Xiangjiang River in Hengshan County. The former Nanyue county and the area west of Xiangjiang River in Hengshan County were merged into Hengshan County.
In 1984, Nanyue District People's government was formally established.

In 2010, Nanyue District has jurisdiction over 3 townships, 1 town, 1 sub district office, 27 administrative villages and 9 neighborhood committees.
On November 18, 2015, the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs (xiangminxingfa No. 35) approved that Yuelin Township, Baidian Township and Longfeng township should be incorporated into Shouyue township. After the adjustment, the district has jurisdiction over one street, one town and one township: zhurong street, Nanyue town and Shouyue township.

The more famous wild animals are Bufo gargarizans, Andrias davidianus, Trionyx sinensis, Bungarus multicinctus, pangolin, wild boar, grey breasted bamboo chicken, etc. There are 1835 species of insects belonging to 17 orders, 186 families in Nanyue.
